2024-08-18 12:42:01 +0000 UTCAs an autistic person the guy in the story at the start sounds like a very specific type of autistic men that I’ve started noticing everywhere— I pity these men because they’re lonely and never got the support to develop the skills to become less lonely, but I also fear them because if they continue to not get the support (and no random person is obligated to give them the support!) they will resent women to an increasingly angry degree Same kind of guy as Hoe Math I also heard a story about an autistic man trying to get a girlfriend by hanging out around the outside of a dominos and hitting on random women trying to buy pizza, because someone told him to “go out” as advice to meet women without clarifying that you have to go out to a bar or something. Which is funny and sad on its own but the guy took the wrong lesson from the fact that it didn’t work and went on to become a violent incel

The only time I use ellipses is with friends/family that I've talked to, I have never had to explain to someone I knew, why I text like I do, because I sometimes pause when speaking, bc my brains weird/ I can't explain it.

Lol anyway when i want to express a pause like that i usually use a comma which obviously is confusing because i also use commas in all the places where clarification is need for other reasons but its better than people misinterpreting the tone of my messages

Early Modern English would be hard to understand for all the reasons stated. Additionally, it would be hard bc english experienced a ‘Great Vowel Shift’ in which the sounds of vowels completely changed over the course of a few centuries. Look up ‘great vowel shift,’ its a great rabbit hole to get lost in lol

2024-08-13 00:44:41 +0000 UTCAs someone who’s currently getting my masters degree in linguistics my favorite thing about linguists is that they’ll be talking about the most insane things like “raw dogging” and be completely factual and academic about it. bc even when you are describing modern slang and online culture you’ll have to use academic language… and that’s also what makes linguistics so fun bc every person in the world uses language and it’s what binds us together as humans and what we use to express ourselves in creative and interesting ways. there’s always something new ☺️

I was racking my bike, holding it up in the air when the train took off and I went flying like a cartoon character. my bike landed on top of me. Did I mention the train was packed? Also my huge water bottle clocked some poor guy in the shin when I went flying. my fall had collateral damage. no one said anything and people did not try to help, which was for the best. I apologized so much to the guy I smacked with my water bottle. the only thing more bruised than my ass was my pride
