I would build a FUN standard deck and then bring it to tournaments, only to be met with these ruthless opponents who didn't give a fuck if I was new or not. They were so mean I would leave the shop in tears.

It's so much more fulfilling to teach kids/newbies something you're good at, and it's even more fun finding ways to make it a close enough game that they feel triumphant at the end regardless of skill level

The last one I went to, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, in game two, after a long work day, I'm not focused at the start of the round and I accidentally cut my deck again before the game starts after my opponent cut it and he acted like I had stolen his cards. Just went off the handle about an honest mistake. I lost that game and in game 2 I keep mulliganing because I just didn't have enough lands. Found out that I had accidentally cut too many lands and only had a 38 card deck, forcing a game loss and finishing the round 0-2. My opponent than says "well, those are the breaks" and then submitted the game result before I could mark that I was dropping out of the prerelease. It's interactions like this that make me never want to play again. The spikes just overwhelmingly tend to be so shitty and angle shooting.

First event id gone to outside locals. Got matched with someone i knew fairly well from locals. he was playing the same deck my previous opponent played i won game 1 and when i lost game 2 i confused the 2 rounds because they were using the same and deck and was like “well you got the win” gg” and they immediately snatched the scorecard and went to report score it was only after the next game i realized they did it because we naver played game 3 and he was taking a win from me. Sucked all the fun put of the rest of the event and i would have placed high enough for prizing if it hadnt happened. Havent had much fun with yugioh outside playing with friends since.
