Former sbux barista here. As long as the woman who orders the 10 pumps of vanilla latte is kind and friendly to the baristas, we’d judge the drink but not her. We had plenty of regulars who’d order odd drinks (sometimes even in the “how does that even taste good?!” category), but were awesome people and some of my fave regulars. But the second you were a dick about how your drink was prepared we’re talking shit behind your back. (Plus we had a regular who’d get a venti skinny cinnamon dolce with 1/2 a shot of blonde espresso, 10 pumps of the sf cinnamon dolce syrup, and 8 sweet & lows, and would taste test it every time to see if we “made it right.” 10 pump vanilla lady’s drink is not even close to the worst abomination I had to make)

I've worked in the coffee industry for 10 years. I'm a coffee roaster and am SCA certified. I don't like seeing people shame others for the money they choose to spend on coffee. Something I've seen over the years is people wanting to make coffee at home to save money and then giving up because it doesn't "taste as good as the shop." This almost always concerns their home water quality and/or dialing in coffee-to-water ratios. It takes some effort to learn how to make coffee. Someone may buy a bottle of vanilla and an espresso machine and then get frustrated by the learning curve later. It isn't hard, but it isn't for everyone. Even if someone is a home brewer, they can still buy a coffee lol people should feel confident in making themselves a damn good cup of coffee at home and also happily pay to have a damn good cup of coffee made for them, especially when they want to try something new.

When I worked as a Starbucks barista we’d have a guy come through every night and this was his order: A short latte in a venti cup with an extra shot, caramel drizzle on the top and bottom, and whipped cream all the way to the top, and two pup cups. It doesn’t sound super complicated but when we handed it to him, he’d feel the weight and demand us to remake it without even trying it. We’d have to make this drink a minimum of two times every night and use at least one entire thing of whipped cream on him. And he was SO rude. I hated hearing his voice come over the intercom with that stupid order.

the guy not being able to pay cash reminds me of when i was checking someone out at a cash register and the computer froze up just as i was telling her the total. she handed me the cash, but the computer hadn't actually processed the transaction yet so i had to wait. i told her "just a moment sorry the computer froze up", and she's like "oh noo you might have to do the math in your head haha!" as if the only reason i was waiting was so the register would calculate the change??? like unfortunately the cash register is more than just a big calculator and i cannot just give you these items if they haven't been marked as sold in the computer. just crazy levels of selfishness and stupidity from some customers

on the jimmy john's cash thing- I worked at a panera and it wasn't uncommon for our system to not want to take cash sometimes. idk all the reasons that can happen but it could literally just be that the drawer won't open when prompted. also, it was a FIREABLE OFFENSE to save food that had been made wrong. we HAD to throw it away. and Anastasia is right. pretty much every place throws out sickening amounts of food. we would donate surplus baked goods when possible and took home stuff at the end of closing shifts, but even then we regularly threw away trash bags full of bread. (baked goods had to be sold or discarded by end of day) I am by no means ethically opposed to people getting free food, but that guy's grievance cannot be solved by a minimum wage employee. like, dude, if you want to fix that you have to kill capitalism.

thats what I was thinking too, I have chronic urticaria and oral allergy syndrome and the OAS was actually causing some of my flare ups, it took a couple different allergists to finally catch what was happening but both are so much more manageable now.

Growing up we didn't have money for fresh fruit or vegetables, sometimes we didn't have money for food at all. When I was 17, I was living in my first studio apartment and fully taking care of myself. I worked as a waitress/server since I was 15. My older brother and I still laugh at something i said when he moved in with me after returning to Philly from Florida. I very cheerfully asked him if he wanted some delicious dessert one day and he said yes. I gave him an apple and he laughed 🤭. To me, fresh fruit was the best dessert I had at the time. He thought I was joking about the apple being a dessert, but he realized I was super serious and I was confused that he didn't view it as a dessert. But, we both ate an apple and now laugh about that time every now and again🥰. I cherish fresh fruit and veggies now. Hmmm...I wonder if it's something in the salad making you sick Jar Jar 🤔. There are many many many kinds of salads available these days. Maybe the type of lettuce doesn't work for you or certain toppings/dressings. Start small with 1 veggie at a time to see if a particular one is making you sick. Also, "Nutrition by Kylie" YouTube channel has great recipes for adding more nutrients to our daily lives. I personally like her content and trust her for nutrition advice because I have a degree in Kinesiology so I have a little knowledge on "diet." Kylie is a registered dietitian. Her approach is positive and welcoming. She often says, "it's not about what we can subtract from our favorite dishes, but what we can add in to provide more nutrients and dietary fiber." I hope this helps some 🤗
