2023-10-21 18:48:02 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the convo about ethics/principles. As someone who struggles with disabilities, people don't realize how little choice you sometimes have in the matter. Every time I throw away single use medical supplies, I feel my gut wrench over the waste, but it's literally for safety reasons. Also I use amazon all the time since going out to buy things when you're disabled can be so difficult. On top of that, I am a plus sized person. I see people bitching about consumers who buy from fast fashion companies but straight sized people have way way more options for sustainable fashion than plus sized people do. If the world were perfect and catered to me, I would buy sustainably. But in the meantime, there is no ethical choice under capitalism.

I once had someone get on my case for like a half hour cause I used to work at NVIDIA, and their argument was that I was going against my own principles by working for a company that mistreated its employees and misrepresented its products (even tho I was the employee being mistreated and my work was being passed off as AI generated). I would have LIKED to not """"enable"""" that behavior but yknow what I did have to pay rent lol

2023-10-08 22:20:47 +0000 UTCRecycling IS hard, I lived in a city where we had single stream dumpsters at our apartments, then I moved to a smaller (yet more liberal) town and we just have a recycling center so I have to collect my recycling and drive to the center and sort it myself. At the center they supposedly don't take plastics that aren't screw lids, even if it's the right number. So a strawberry container could be a #1 plastic, but if I put it in the #1 plastic bin, I'd be contaminating it because it doesn't have a screw lid.
