29 Hair Beauty Shots - Part 01

Hello!
Here's the new video for this month. We will be talking about this shot made in Cinema 4D with the Hair Module and Redshift of course.

I'm calling this part 01 because my plan is to make other shots and even animation with Hair and break those down so stay tuned for upcoming videos.

However, this video is ALL about the shot you see below, from start to finish.

Thank you to all of you for your continued support!

29 Hair Beauty Shots - Part 01

Comments

I've found that animation on hair is pretty tricky. C4D uses a very old engine and you pretty much have to rely on physics to be able to accurately export hair animations. As far as specifics of using it clump I can't remember that I did but again I'm assuming as long as you use physics to animate the hair it should work. don't know for sure though

Hello everyone, has anyone managed to export a nice animation with the clumb on the hair? if so, how? thank you very much

I'm still working on figuring out the animation so I don't have an ETA for part 2 but it will come!

Jesus Suarez

Hello! Is there a part 2 coming?

Alex C Blackburn

Hey Rui! thanks for your comment and your support. Unfortunately I'm still running tests for animating hair like this and I haven't found a workaround for it, but I'm trying to so stay tuned!

Jesus Suarez

Great tut Jesus! as you said clump is messing around with the animation of the hair... im animating a pillow with hair and the hairs just go crazy if clumping is enabled... is there a workaround to fix them? because clump is really important to have the hairs feel natural... thank you!

Thanks for sharing Ryan!

Interesting that you posted this this month as I'm just wrapping a hair spot of my own. Couple of things to note for your shader that I found in my research (talking to my hairstylist wife) - Melanin is the amount of pigment in hair. Less melanin = less pigment which means silver/grey. We lose melanin as we get older. More melanin = more pigment. So less will pull more towards blonde and more will pull towards brunette, eventually becoming black. - Melanin Redness is essentially the warmth in the hair. People with ashy hair will have less redness in the melanin(pigmentation) Wife also mentioned that almost all of my reference images had far too much sharp reflections compared to real life hair so like you mention, the roughness sliders are your friends for more realism.
