Chapter 0786: Blastoise vs. Bewear!(Two-in-One)

Location data showed that Team Rocket was in the depths of the forest, not far from Trainer School.

Natsume could easily arrive in moments, but the Trio’s plea for help left him hesitating.

"Bewear? The Bewear that can walk on water like a ninja?" Natsume asked.

"Walk on water... What kind of move is that, meow?" Meowth blinked.

"It comes down from the sky, like it’s learned ‘Fly’ or something," James moaned. "Every time we try to escape, it just drags us right back!"

Heavy thumping sounds echoed in the video as the Trio went pale. Jessie choked out,

"I-it’s coming—Bewear is here!"

"We have to hang up... Executive, you gotta save us, meow~!" Meowth whimpered, tearing up.

"Wobbuffet!"

The video cut off abruptly. Natsume and Rotom Pokédex traded glances, then both looked up at the sky.

"Honestly… not helping them seems perfectly fine…"

Bewear was the brightest star of the Pokémon: Sun & Moon anime—a bear that could fly, burrow, and do anything. It could brawl Ultra Beasts and babysit the Trio, making it Team Rocket’s greatest logistical support in the Alola Region.

Bewear saw the Trio as its own children and often provided them with Berries and Honey. If Pikachu ever blasted them off again, Bewear would drop from the sky and carry the Trio back to its tree cave.

You could say Bewear was the Trio’s vital companion—and a top-tier battler in Alola.

In all of Alola, Bewear might be the only one with "Battle Legends" grade power...

"Still... I’d like to meet Bewear in person."

First, Natsume was extremely curious to witness this “true Guardian deity” known as ‘Tapu Bulu’.

Second, making sure the Trio and Bewear got along would set his own mind at ease.

Just in case, Natsume contacted Cynthia back home, asking her to transfer Gengar and Blastoise’s Poké Balls over using the "Poké Ball transport system."

That space-tech marvel was invented by Professor Bill… Still young, Bill was the pioneer of Fusion Studies and Space Transfer Science.

In generations past, Bill even experimented on himself, becoming the first Human-Pokémon fusion case.

The series featured similar events, like Black and Zekrom fusing in the manga, or Lusamine and Nihilego in the games.

If this research continues, maybe Human and Gardevoir fusions aren’t so impossible after all. (Kidding.)

"Gengar! " Gengar burst out of the Poké Ball, swung its long tongue, and gave Natsume a ‘Lick’ right on the face.

Next, it leaped into darkness like a diver, waving its stubby arms to swim through the shadows.

The Dive Ball, in contrast, didn’t move at all—like it was empty.

Blastoise perfectly hid its aura, or rather, camouflaged itself so its aura matched the Dive Ball exactly.

Natsume: "......"

The stronger Blastoise became, the worse its “paranoia” got.

Given it had fought the likes of Arceus and freed Hoopa, it made sense these symptoms kept increasing…

Leaving the office, Natsume set out for the woods near the school and soon bumped into green twin-tailed Mallow, who was atop her Tauros. She greeted him,

"Alola~~ Natsume, where you headed? Want a ride?"

"I’ll take my bike," Natsume-sensei said, and just then, Gengar emerged from the darkness, producing a folding bike, tapping its handlebars, and grinning. "Gengar!"

"Activate bike transformation, Rotom~!"

With Rotom leaving the Pokédex, the device tumbled from the air into Gengar’s hands. Electrical Rotom zipped into the bike, a flash of white light, and Rotom Bike's headlight blinked, bell jingling.

"Beep… Navigation active for you, Rotom~"

"Wow, amazing." Mallow’s eyes sparkled. "Professor taught us about Rotom, but the Pokédex forms are so handy!"

"Kitchen forms are handy too."

Natsume then hopped on the bike. "I’m headed into the nearby woods. Mallow, remind everyone: whatever you do, don’t get close to the forest—there are some extremely dangerous Pokémon living there!"

Mallow nodded in surprise, then watched as Natsume-sensei pedaled away, hands on her hips with a cheerful grin:

"Really looking forward to tomorrow afternoon's Breeding and cooking class with Natsume-sensei!"

……

Forest tree cave near the school.

Team Rocket huddled in the hollow of a giant banyan, arms around their knees, shaking with fear.

Surrounded by piles of fresh, delicious Berries, the heavy steps of a pink-furred Bewear grew nearer, as it hugged an armload of fruit.

Bewear drew closer and dumped the Berries before the Trio, cocking its head, "Bewear?"

"It’s asking if we don’t like the Berries, meow…" Meowth trembled as he translated.

James and Jessie swallowed, too frightened to answer.

Bewear scooped up a honeycomb, smeared its paw in honey, then—in a blur of speed—delivered mouthfuls to each of them.

The Trio, startled, soon found themselves licking their lips.

James blinked. "Wait, was that… honey?"

"It’s feeding us, meow~"

"So generous!" Jessie cried.

The Trio turned to Bewear, feeling oddly touched—until they caught the intensity of its gaze and impressive aura, which kept them on edge.

Ding-a-ling!

The crisp bell of a bicycle echoed through the forest.

Instantly, Bewear spun and, in a blur, dashed toward the source of the sound.

The Trio panicked. "Executive is in danger!"

Meowth swam through the Berry pile, breaking free.

"Meowth, pull me out, let’s go help!" Jessie gritted her teeth.

"There’s too many Berries, meow!"

"Pull Jessie’s hair," James suggested.

Meowth hesitated, then grabbed Jessie’s red hair. She gasped in pain, furious:

"Don’t pull so hard!!"

Jessie’s anger flared, and she sprang up from the berry pile, fruit cascading to the ground.

"Such strength," Meowth gawked.

Just then, the crash of fists sounded in the distance, sending birds fleeing.

The Trio clutched their faces, horrified, like figures out of ‘The Scream.’

"Executive and Bewear are fighting!?"

......

Slanting light in gray morning mist.

CRACK—

A bicycle tire rolled over dry leaves as Natsume sensed something off in the aura, a cold sweat on his brow.

Was this really Bewear’s "Unnerve" Ability?

Even a legendary Pokémon’s "Pressure" didn’t feel like this!

Shff!

A shadow whipped up twigs and dust in a gust of wind, halting just ahead.

Natsume narrowed his eyes.

A hulking, black-and-pink bear stood its ground, waving an arm in what looked like an oddly friendly greeting.

But Natsume’s spine went cold—sweat beading on his skin.

Bewear’s "friendly" wave was actually a warning gesture.

If you ever see it waving ‘hello,’ you’re only moments away from blacking out and waking up in the Pokémon Center!

I’ve decided—the next video will be a crash course on dangerous Pokémon in Alola!

"Wait, I mean no harm… I’m here to check on a friend."

Natsume hastily held up both hands, palms glowing faintly blue with the calming Aura of Ripple, trying to soothe Bewear.

But Bewear’s eyes only grew deeper, aura more suffocating, unmoved.

Natsume: "……"

Aura of Ripple worked on Giratina and Regigigas, but not on this Bewear?

You play by nobody’s strategy guide, do you, Bewear!

"Should I try The Power of One? Or maybe Pokéblock?" Natsume thought, uneasy.

So my famous ‘Charm Power’ fails now—against Bewear of all things!

"Bewear! (`Д′)"

Bewear waved its arm wide, face stern, gaze sharp.

"No time…"

Natsume secretly gripped the Dive Ball, muttering, "Gengar, wait for your chance—hit it with Hypnosis!"

"Gengar~" Gengar cackled, slipping into the shade and watching for his moment.

In the wild, trainer safety always comes first—releasing a Pokémon often triggered aggression, but it was sometimes unavoidable.

Especially with Bewear—as a comic relief in Sun & Moon, it could even obliterate Guzzlord when angry!

Not even Vegeta can beat Arale…

Natsume kept his focus, summoning a pale gold aura, but Bewear refused to connect, remaining grim.

"Bewear!"

Bewear lunged forward, gathering dark red pulses around its huge fist—a picture-perfect "Darkest Lariat"!

"You know the world’s strongest Incineroar’s move too!?"

Startled, Natsume threw the Dive Ball and shouted, "Ice Punch!!"

"Blastoise!"

Blastoise emerged in a flash, eyes cold, fists armored with frost, meeting Bewear’s punch head-on.

THUD!!

A blast of force exploded, hurling leaves and debris in a cyclone. The ground caved in; splintered, icy cracks spidered outward as a ball of red-black energy engulfed the two.

The whole scene went full Dragon Ball... Natsume pursed his lips—this Bewear was "Battle Legends" tier, easily on par with Darkrai who roamed Alamos Town for a hundred years!

Though Blastoise was a mixed attacker, close combat against Bewear was a tough matchup!

"But…"

Natsume eyed Blastoise, now surrounded in aura.

"As I thought… Torrent’s activated again."

The shockwave whipped Natsume’s jacket.

Both combatants’ fists locked, Bewear’s eyes flickering, voice low: "Bewear..."

This Blastoise is the strongest I’ve faced.

"Blastoise…" Blastoise glared, short powerful arms locked around Bewear’s. The cannons on its back shifted, targeting Bewear, water surging.

"Water Gun!" Natsume commanded.

"Ruu? ┌(。Д。)┐"

Water Gun? Wait—this isn’t a Water Gun!

Bewear recoiled in shock, arms crossed defensively.

With a roar, jets from the cannons blasted Bewear all the way into the trunk of the great banyan.

"Now, Gengar!" Natsume shouted.

From under the shadows, Gengar appeared, teeth bared, eyes glowing with hypnotic power.

Bewear swayed, drowsy, then stood tall, looking at Natsume as he stepped back—its aura finally subsiding.

"Bewear…"

"It says: You didn’t pursue, so Executive and Blastoise don’t seem like bad people, meow," Meowth translated.

"Hypnotizing was just for easier capturing, that's typical Executive thinking," Jessie remarked in surprise.

"Come on, break it up already!" James urged.

The Trio leapt down, rushing between Bewear and Natsume, nervously fanning the tension.

"Calm down, both of you~"

"Executive, it was our misunderstanding—it even fed us so well, meow."

"Maybe it thought we were lost kids—Bewear mistook us for its own cubs."

"That’s some misunderstanding…" Natsume said wryly.

"Bewear doesn’t have telepathy, after all," James said with a laugh. "And it seems this Bewear is a mother, too."

The Bear Deity is a female—which was why, in the anime, she wasn’t charmed by Pheromosa.

Team Rocket always had a knack for bonding with Pokémon; maybe that’s why Bewear adopted them so easily.

Natsume checked Bewear’s body language; seeing no aggression, he recalled Blastoise, murmuring to the Dive Ball:

"Good job out there, Blastoise~"

"Blastoise…" In the ball, Blastoise chewed on a Revival Herb, nodding faintly.

Good thing I got recalled in time, or I’d be half dead now.

Natsume: "……"

That’s... logical? Maybe?

Bewear shook off Gengar’s hypnosis, rose, and gave Natsume a challenging stare.

Shadows crossed Natsume’s face as he looked up at Bewear—so much for winning it over with snacks.

This was the Trio’s destiny… At least from now on, they’d be well cared for in Alola.

"Bewear~!" Bewear called.

Natsume glanced over as Meowth translated: "It says it’d like your help, meow~"

"What does it need?" Natsume asked.

Meowth listened, then said, "Its own child is missing, and it hopes you can help find them. In exchange, it’ll help you out too, meow~"

"Why not search yourself?" Natsume asked, curious.

"It says it’s searched all of Melemele Island, meow... But searching all four islands alone would take too long, so it needs a reliable helper."

Meowth sounded a little sad. "Didn’t realize it’d been through that, meow~"

"We’ll help for sure!" James pumped a fist.

"Yeah, anyone would feel lost if separated from family," Jessie agreed, arms folded.

Bewear’s eyes shimmering, she scooped up Meowth and the others in a giant hug.

"Aaah! Careful, careful—my ribs!!"

Natsume, watching the Trio crushed in Bewear’s arms, winced with phantom pain.

"Ahem, I’ll keep an eye out."

Natsume cleared his throat, "And there are things I’ll need your help with later too... Let’s work together."

After all, as Alola’s top-tier power, the flying Bewear could face even Necrozma head-on.

By the way… how does Bewear even fly…?

"Bewear..."

Bewear returned to her tree cave, then came closer to Natsume, extending her paw.

In her palm sat an emerald-glowing pure crystal, teeming with Grass-type energy—a Grass Z-Crystal.

"Grass! (A plant) You’re giving this to me?" Natsume exclaimed.

Bewear nodded gently; Meowth translated:

"It’s compensation, for raising a hand against you, meow~"

"I see." Natsume smiled. "Then I’ll accept!"

Thinking back, Natsume-sensei did recall something about Bewear’s missing cub.

It seemed to be at Lusamine’s Aether Paradise, being cared for as an injured Pokémon.

Aether Paradise is a massive artificial island floating in Alola’s waters, built by the Aether Foundation.

Lusamine herself—head of the Foundation, and Lillie’s mother—was known for her flowing golden hair.

In the games and manga, her personality was nasty, yandere, and obsessive with collecting Ultra Beasts and specimens.

But in the anime, Lusamine was gracious and noble—a true good person.

Having received the Grass Z-Crystal and checked on the Trio’s safety, Natsume decided to return.

The Trio trailed after him, but Bewear stopped them with a sweep of her arm.

"Executive!" the Trio called nervously.

"You stay in the tree cave," Natsume smiled. "Alola doesn’t need you scheming anymore—just enjoy the food and rest; think of it as a vacation~"

With that, Natsume turned and waved, "Alola!"

"Executive!!"

Their wails echoed through the forest.

"How does this even feel, meow~"

"Wobbuffet~!"
