Chapter 272: Settling Yveltal
Added 2025-02-15 05:51:24 +0000 UTCIn the courtyard of the farm, after temporarily settling the Carbink tribe, Natsume began preparing to address the issue of Yveltal. Zacian, Lugia, and Dragonite stood by his side, all gazing at the Master Ball containing Yveltal.
Natsume spoke up, "Yveltal, let's be reasonable here. I wasn't the one who woke you up. I attacked you because you were destroying the surrounding environment and even caused Diancie's home to be lost. By all accounts, I had every right to seal you away."
Yveltal, perhaps because it had already lost to Zacian and the others or for some other reason, had become unusually quiet since arriving at the farm.
Yveltal's calm voice echoed, "In this world, death and life, destruction and creation, are balanced forces. The growth of life itself is a form of plunder. Thus, destruction and death are necessary to bring about renewal and maintain balance."
Natsume countered, "But if we hadn't intervened, all you would have brought was destruction."
"That's because humans woke me prematurely. My power requires life to sustain it."
Natsume thought for a moment, then said, "I can release you for now, but I hope you can restrain yourself and not recklessly unleash your life-absorbing abilities."
The Master Ball remained still. Natsume opened the ball's switch.
Bang~
A red light burst forth, and the crimson bird spread its wings, soaring into the sky above the farm. Zacian and Lugia immediately tensed up. The ground of the farm rippled with waves of dense life energy.
Yveltal paid no attention to Zacian or Lugia. It simply stared at the ground.
Natsume took this moment to carefully observe Yveltal's form. The legendary god of destruction and ruin didn't look terrifying at all. On the contrary, it was quite majestic. Its wings, resembling broad hands, exuded a wild and powerful beauty. The flame-like patterns on its feathers and its dark body gave it an air of mystery.
As Natsume was about to speak, Yveltal spoke first, "Xerneas and I are opposing forces. After destruction, Xerneas will breathe new life into the land, and thus, a new cycle begins. If Xerneas had appeared there, that area wouldn't have truly died."
Natsume listened, deep in thought. In this world, most legendary Pokémon seemed to exist in opposition to one another. The concept of cycles was something Natsume understood well.
"So, when you awaken, Xerneas should appear as well, right?"
Yveltal replied calmly, "That's how it has always been."
"But it didn't appear this time?"
Yveltal shook its head. Perhaps it was because it had awakened prematurely, or perhaps for some other reason. Yveltal wasn't sure why Xerneas hadn't appeared, nor did it particularly care. After all, its purpose was destruction. Restoration wasn't its concern.
"Never mind," Natsume said. "If it's too hard to figure out, let's not dwell on it. Yveltal, what do you plan to do next? Or rather, what did you usually do in the past?"
There weren't many records of Yveltal. The god of destruction seemed to spend most of its time sleeping.
Yveltal flapped its wings and landed on the ground. "This place is suitable for me to continue my slumber."
Natsume raised an eyebrow. "Because of Jirachi?"
"I can sense the abundant life energy here."
Yveltal's power represented destruction and death, but its power source was life itself! Jirachi, with its Millennial Comet energy, was not only a boon to the land but also to Yveltal.
Natsume thought for a moment, then asked seriously, "If you sleep here, will it affect my farm's crops?"
Yveltal paused.
"My presence will protect your territory from any invasion. With Zacian and the others here, you have nothing to fear."
Yveltal glanced at Zacian, who had already walked into the house and jumped onto the couch, and fell silent.
Natsume said, "Honestly, dealing with you is quite troublesome. After all, I might not even need your power. But letting you roam free isn't reassuring either. There are plenty of crazies in this world, and if someone were to control you, it would be a real headache."
Yveltal growled, "Control me? Human, are you underestimating me?"
Natsume shrugged. "Not at all. I'm just saying that anything is possible in this world. Like right now, who would believe that I'm standing by the grapevines, discussing sleep with the legendary god of destruction?"
Yveltal fell silent for a moment, then muttered, "It won't affect your farm. At least not until the life energy emitted by Jirachi is depleted."
Yveltal added, "Of course, if you can find Xerneas and have it sleep here as well, we will naturally reach a new balance. It won't even affect the land's absorption of Jirachi's energy."
"One last question. I might not need your help, but if I ever do, can I wake you from your slumber?"
Yveltal nodded. "You can. I will assist you."
Natsume nodded slightly, then gestured politely. "Then, sweet dreams, Yveltal."
Yveltal gazed at Natsume. Finally, it said nothing more, simply folding its wings around itself. Yveltal transformed into an "egg," which slowly sank into the ground of the farm and disappeared.
