japan really does have a bad case of "square peg will never fit in the round hole" mentality, they just see everyone's faults rather than the attempts to better themselves it's a meritocracy in all but name, which makes me even less inclined in retrospect to side with Yamato Hotsuin from smt devil survivor 2, he wants to rewrite the world to be a meritocracy when japan already is one, it comes off as hollow in the grand scheme of things
