LOTR: Return of the King

An amazing trilogy

LOTR: Return of the King

Comments

For real though this movie had like 10 endings :p

little late to the party but I'm just saying that Smeagol is the real MVP of this story! He held the ring the longest out of anyone and survived in a twisted way. In a strange way, the ring destroyed itself through golum. So, maybe the moral of the story is that the forces of good have to outlast the forces of evil long enough for them to destroy themselves.

she spoiled herself. the beauty of the extended versions of LOTR is the mystery behind the rings. how we waited years for this, even after playing the shadows it wasn't clear, but watch this before?? how we felt when we saw gandalf and them on the hobbit? witch king, gandalf scene I don't see it

Mark M

Please nooo!!!! why are you watching rings of power?? first watch extended versions get the hype you know how long we waited for this? then hobbit understand its so much better when you love a villain or just any character, because of the legends about him then this. you meet golum then after you understand how he became that. you spoiled yourself

Mark M

why would they take out the most epic scenes? the witch king scenes only on extended??

Mark M

so sad to realize that no matter what scene they cut it sucks hahaha there should only exist the extended. do you not know death when you see it? old man

Mark M

So in the end, Gandalf telling Frodo: "Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over." turns to be correct.

Wow thank you so much for the input! Also, a holiday tradition!! That sounds so nice! I don’t have a holiday tradition. Maybe it’s about time I make one. :)

If it makes you feel better about Frodo. Apparently the ring is impossible for anyone to resist once they're in the mountain. So essentially no one can let the ring burn on their own. It doesn't matter If Sam had the ring, or even if Aragorn had the ring. They wouldn't be able to let it go either. It had to fall the way it did with Gollum and Frodo fighting over it. Basically an accident and not will power. Kind of scary when you think about it.

Great trilogy! Also, I hate to be this guy, but when you re-watch them, you have to watch the extended editions! This is actually the first time I've seen the theatrical edition for this one, and as good as it was, it leaves out some pertinent scenes that the extended one has! Did you see at the end, Gandalf has a ring on his finger? That's Narya, one of the three elven rings. After Celebrimbor forged it, he gave it to Gil-galad, who gave it to his Círdan (Cirdan is briefly seen in the first movie as one of the elves in the prologue and also at the end standing behind everyone at the Grey Havens), his lieutenant. When Gandalf came to Middle-Earth, Círdan knew who he really was, and he gave Narya to Gandalf. It probably helped Gandalf to inspire courage and hope. It also gives extra stamina and endurance to the wearer. The ring was intentionally hidden until that end scene at the Grey Havens. I love Gandalf's quotes. "I will not say 'do not weep,' for not all tears are an evil" is a personal favorite. Also, did you watch them all back-to-back?

Oh, and I just HAVE to mention, watching you switch sides multiple times - "oh no, the horses!!!! oh no, the oliphaunts!!! oh no, the horses!!! - in the middle of the big battle was HILARIOUS!!! 😂

Great job on your reactions to all three movies Sarah. I had so much fun watching you watch them. I love this trilogy so much, doing a marathon of the extended versions has become a yearly Xmas tradition for my family, so by now I can almost quote the movies out of memory, LOL. Anyways, those extended editions add about 2 1/2 hours to the story - that is like a full extra movie! - so you will find lots of relevant details that will answer a lot of your questions. Wholeheartedly recommend them. OTOH The Hobbit trilogy has some good parts but they stretched a single book onto three movies, so the story is not as consistent, and some of the characters are not very compelling. Still might be worth a watch if you want to learn a bit more about the lore, but I would suggest you lower your expectations, especially coming off of LOTR.

Calu

Oh I’m definitely watching it again after the series ends! :)

Snacks

If you would ever want to watch this trilogy again you should watch the extended cut, it adds a lot of scenes about Aragorn and the corsairs, Denethor and Faramir and Faramir and Eowyn among many others.

lol Grimli

my favorite trilogy and the scene when Rohan and Theoden showed up gave me chills all over again. So hype. And I think the name you gave Gimli was so funny, "Grimli".
