Daughter of the Sea

Hey everyone, finished Jaina!

I wanted to create a more dynamic scene with a few different planes of depth so I gave a different technique a try to see how it goes.

Basically I started with a very loose sketch of what I wanted from the scene, then I blocked the basic shapes of the ship in 3d and used that as reference to draw the lineart (which was the one that I posted earlier this week).

It's something that is used quite often in architecture paintings and concept arts from games and such that involve buildings or non-organic structures.

It's definitely interesting to use and something to keep in mind for future compositions.

As for the drawing, before the Warbringer cinematics I already wanted to do her standing on a ship, but travelling to kul tiras instead. But then I thought it was fitting to change the ship to her father's old sunken ship (hence the color, being aged etc), since it was a really powerfull scene.

So I hope you guys like it and soon we'll have a preview of the next artwork, which might interest some of you guys since it has Sombra on it, and it involves summer ... and stuff like that =D

Your drawings never cease to amaze. I'm not familiar with the Warcraft mythos and such but seeing your works makes me want to play the game, unfortunately i dont think my laptop would be able to handle it xd. Still great job dude

Genial....😍

Thanks! I started to paint backgrounds in color instead of grayscale -> color because there's a lot of broad color changes that are not that good to do on top of a value painting. So instead I painted in color and choose a small color variation on the brush to get different tones while painting. The rest of the painting I did in the same way I use to do, since I think it's bettwe to control that type of micro detailing in values, so I think it's a good mix of techniques that I used both on maiev and this drawing. With the new way I did scenario it's definitely looking interesting for future compositions =)

I loved the song (and the whole idea) of the cinematic. They did an amazing job

Lee

Thank you! I'm glad you liked her! It was definitely insteresting for me to do it =)

Lee

Thanks for pointing it out. There was something about it bothering me as well but I forgot to give it a 2nd look by the end of the image since theres was a lot of details to wrap up. I fixed it now =) . The nose bridge was a little too much curved inwards

Lee

Pensative/sad/going to be angry =D

Lee

Thank you, this is pretty much the idea. I'd imagine there's a lot going on in her head at that moment =)

Simply amazing my friend!! THIS is what beautiful art looks like! Loving it from top to bottom. 😍😍😍

Draven Shadow

Oh this is just gorgeous, upon first look, I immediately really like the colours that you've used with the pale sky and dull wood for the ship, the brighter tones of Jaina's hair, eyes, skin and the white segments of her clothing, as well as the richer blues all stand out very distinctly. The background looks marvellous, the textures running through the wood in particular, they're so varied across all of the different planes, while the little parts where you've chipped the edges are great little touches and attention to detail. Like I said, i like the pale sky, as well as how the furthest features of the ship start to fade and become silhouetted against the sky. Jaina herself is just fantastic, her hair is so intricate with so many strands splitting off, even from the interlocking segments of her braid. Her face is beautiful, with those blue eyes contrasting very well with her skin tones. But one of my favourite things in this painting is how well you've done her clothes, they're ludicrously well done! The folds in the blue cape draped across her arms, with textures and patterns conforming to the folds is very impressive, as are all of the folds and overlapping segments across her torso, with their own textures and patterns. I don't technically have that much to say about it, since the praise that I just gave applies all over, but make no mistake, the painting and rendering of Jaina's clothes here is simply masterful. Amazing job on this painting! Brilliantly detailed, with a beautiful character at the forefront, with the background letting off a nice sense of atmosphere.

Yeah, definitely the ship she used to make her grand entrance at the gates of Lordaeron. I very much like the view on deck. It feels like she is lost in thoughts while looking into the distance but I very much like that about this piece of art. Great work.
