Jay, latest AccuWeather forecast shows Milton will be a Cat. 3 hurricane by the it hits Florida. Even if you are on the Atlantic coast, it's gonna be a mess. I'd suggest securing what you can, packing what you need and head north out of the way. I've been through hurricanes before, up through a Cat. 4, and they will mess you up. Been in Ft. Lauderdale in the 70's, so, yeah, I know what Florida weather can be like. Again, good luck! (BTW; You ever had a situation where the sky is clear blue, except for one little cloud, which happens to be over you, and it starts pouring cats and dogs? Yeah... Florida weather...)

I remember my mom and I in our old VW Beetle being almost blown off the causeway between Clearwater Beach and the mainland by hurricane Donna in 1961. Two lessons I learned growing up in Clearwater: don’t panic, but don’t underestimate either. Stay safe, Jay.

It shouldn't be too bad for you, unless it strengthens into an actual hurricane. In that case, GTFO for high ground, or safe locations.

Brett, Mitch, Ruby, Katrina, the last major was Harvey 1st landfall east in Copano bay to my home, which was 10nm miles away. Rockport, most structures that were merely cinderblock or not to code were slicked to the foundations. Of the airport, all hangars were GONE. Brand new motels built to post Katrina were cracked and damaged heavily. 160MPH winds hit Fulton, which was 5nm from the eye at landfall. My property lost about 1500-2000 years old growth of Live Oaks, which saved my home, that was built to nuclear weapons survival at 35 miles distance. That means if Corpus got hit by a 500-750KT at the Naval Air Station, we'd suffer damage but survive. I'm very comfortable here.

It might not matter, as it could die out after hitting Florida. If not, then it's likely to spin out to.sea for a bit, if it still has enough inertia, and restrengthen, or, it may rest rent hen slightly and hug the coast as it follows the Atlantic Current up the coast. It just depends weather it weakens, or simply breaks up... (And yes, I deliberately used weather, rather than whether...)
