yeah I hate the stepsibling romance. Obviously them not being blood related is supposed to make it better, but they refer to each other as "my brother," etc. not "my stepbrother" and have always had a very sibling-esque vibe. The romance kind of came out of nowhere at the end of the last episode, with the creepy way Boone was staring at Sayid. If they really wanted to go here, it should've at least been seeded in earlier. BUT I really wish they hadn't gone here. I do have more sympathy for Shannon than you with what she was doing to Boone but that's because I have seen further on in the show. Curious what your thoughts will be later.

There's a revealing character moment in a previous episode that hints at why Locke is so fixated on the hatch. It was just before they found it a few episodes ago, its getting dark and Boone says he thinks they should turn back cause they won't find Claire at night and without stopping Locke says, "don't you feel it?". Boone asks what, and he emphasizes "IT", like he's no longer following a trail, but a feeling he has. Right at that moment they find the hatch. He's a character deeply invested in his intuition, and he believes it led him to this inexplicable metal door in the jungle. I'd be obsessed too, although probably not enough to knock someone out and drug them to protect the secret...

I hate any incest subplot, but this one is on the 'less bad' end, for me. I don't want to say too much more because I'm a season ahead of you, but I feel like it's closer to the 'interesting character dynamics' side of the 'interesting character dynamics' to 'gross' spectrum.

I came for you, for you, I came for you, but you did not need my urgency I came for you, for you, I came for you, but your life was one long emergency And your cloud line urges me, oh, and my electric surges free Oh crawl into my ambulance, your pulse is getting weak Oh reveal yourself all now to me girl while you've got the strength to speak 'Cause they're waiting for you at Bellevue with their oxygen masks But I could give it all to you now if only you could ask Whoa and don't call for your surgeon, even he says it's too late It's not your lungs this time, it's your heart that holds your fate Don't give me my money, honey, I don't want it back You and your pony face and your union jack We'll take your local joker and teach him how to act I swear I was never that way even when I really cracked I’m stuck in Sydney, stepbro. A pretty crazy episode, and I love that it doesn’t really end with a cliffhanger. Just a beginning, middle and end. I still love and appreciate Locke, and honestly? I think if he did this for me, I would appreciate it. Maybe it’s just some cult shit that I’m susceptible to, but there’s a definite appeal in Locke as Dad. A wise, capable man who won’t just tell you what you want to hear, but knows what you need. You need to be encouraged to finish chasing your white rabbit? You need to give up your addiction through choice instead of necessity? You need to stop incestuously lusting for your sister? He’s got the answer, and the answer is never the same. I’d be trusting him, or maybe it’s because Terry O’Quinn is so charismatic in the role. I don’t think the monster was really there, because if Shannon wasn’t there, how did it seem to physically lift her? And why would it stop chasing Boone to kill an imaginary Shannon? I really think Boone just wandered around the jungle for a bit. I’m not too rough on Shannon, although just like I’m susceptible to cult shit I’m also susceptible to a pretty face. Maybe she told herself she was giving him the chance to play hero, which is what he wants and what he can afford to do. Besides, I imagine Shannon couldn’t have loved growing up with a brother who was sexually attracted to her, which she’s always been aware of. Boone said to the cop that they were eight and ten when their parents married, I think, which to me makes it way worse than, say, two 18-year-olds meeting for the first time when their parents get married. So he’s Boone Carlyle, she’s Shannon Rutherford. Huh, they really hammered on that “no blood relation” exposition earlier, just to remind us. It sure doesn’t seem like anyone is looking for Claire. I guess if the trail is gone (and Locke did say that Ethan was a more capable hunter) there’s not much to be done. Nobody seems that torn up aside from Charlie, but… well, I guess looking at the series, how much time has passed since they crashed? Under a month, it feels like. So I guess they didn’t know Claire all that well.
