I am the way and the life in the best looking truth An episode very openly drenched in straightforward symbolism with the moth and the confessional parallel in the cave; I feel it works because the story itself plays out like a biblical parable: the good man struggling with temptation is presented with a choice from a wise mentor, and it’s a choice which seems straightforward but presents personal conflict. From a practical standpoint though, I would probably keep the heroin in case injuries occur and pain relief is needed… but this makes for a way better ending. Charlie is pretty relatable for a semi-known musician; who doesn’t have the occasional feeling of uselessness? And Charlie’s the baby brother, the bass player, the guy who feels like a limpet on everyone else’s story. It’s nice that he gets his moment in the sun, and it really did come down the belief in self that Locke gave him. Really, Locke was probably the first person in a long time to not only tell Charlie he believed in him, but proved it. And kept his word.
