Also I always recommend the audiobook version performed by Sheryl Lee herself, which is absolutely incredible but profoundly disturbing. If you haven't heard it yourself, and if you think you can take it (because it is so hard to listen to at certain points), I can't recommend it highly enough.

2026-01-16 22:23:01 +0000 UTCThe Secret Diary of Laura Palmer is one of the most powerful and disturbing books I've ever read. It was written by Jennifer Lynch, David's daughter, who was about 21 at the time. David came to her and asked if she'd have any interest in writing it, and it was released between Seasons 1 and 2. Very rarely has a book filled me with such a profound sense of tragedy, loss and disgust. It's exceptionally well-written, but I've only been able to bring myself to read it once. I think every Twin Peaks fan owes it to themselves to read it at some point, to really understand the depths of the horrors of Laura's life, so you should definitely read it, but I'd recommend reading it after you finish Season 2. The ideal time to read it, in my opinion, would be after Season 2 but before Firewalk With Me. I think I might re-read it myself when you reach that point, but it won't be pleasant.
