DS9 s2e7 “Rules of Acquisition”

Are the Ferengi adorable scamps or truly despicable?  Hard to tell in this light farce minus fun episode.  Tongo seems enjoyable, tho.

Something tells me it had more to do with Gene than Majel 👀🤨

Do you think the main reason Trek writers were stuck with the canon of naked ferengi females was because of that TNG episode where they beamed the Troi’s out of their clothes? Speaking of which, Betazoids also have naked weddings. What was with Majel and nudity??

Not a fan of Ferengi culture focussed episodes. I feel like Dax’s acceptance of the misogyny is specifically written to soften the grossness for the audience. By men for men. Ah, the continuous comedy of all the females of a culture having zero rights. 🙄 Today, Afghan women in Canada are protesting to remind everyone that the women of Afghanistan lost all of their rights two years ago. They protest here because women in Afghanistan have lost their voice: the right to protest, the right to work, the right to education, their very right to exist in society. Imagine Dax having a sweet fondness for the Taliban - doesn’t seem cute. Or funny. I sometimes wish they had made Nog a girl - perhaps she could have taken on the story and been disguised as a boy in order to participate in life. Stories regarding Ferengi females might have been more present and meaningful and played less for laughs. Although they do a really good job with Nog in the long run, it becomes more about his personal experiences rather than just being a Ferengi (which is a real good thing.) The Orville actually did two incredible episodes in their S3 that seriously examined a known (main cast) culture’s suppression of one gender.
