Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 3x5 Full Reaction

Or Xander could just be a teenage boy who thinks with another appendage other than his brain. And when was Angel out of breath?

Interesting episode, but I always find it a little bit weird with all the SlayerFest thing, a game where humans, demons, and vampires pay for chance to compete with each other other to kill, not one, but two slayers at the same time? I don't know, I feel it weird. Also the entire situation at school with the competition between Buffy and Cordelia, it's well done and perfectly understandable, but it feels a little bit old. We already addressed Buffy's struggles with adjusting to her new nature as a slayer, how this affects her social life at school, and her difficulties balancing the two sides of her life, throughout season one and two. At this point, personally, I think that we should be past these kind of issues with her character and that this story fits better into an earlier season. Despite all of this, this episode finally gives us Buffy and Cordelia teaming up and in action, and for that reason alone it's an episode worth seeing. Fun observation about Angel. Do you think they sometimes forget that Angel is supposedly a vampire? Because I doubt it every time they show him sweaty and out of breath, vampires aren't supposed to breath or sweat. It's a minor thing, I know, but it always amuse me. Oh, right, than we have that other “thing” in this episode, I prefer not to think to … the “thing”. It just feels wrong and disturbing. What can we say about that, maybe Willow was caught up in the moment remembering the feelings she had for Xander in the past, while Xander is just Xander again, doesn't know what he wants, wants what he doesn't have, or just wants everything, will he ever grow up? I don't know, I'll let you decide.

Another great reaction Cass! And I'm so happy you love the postcards :). Yeah Willow and Xander at this point is NOT GOOD, but I do kind of get why the writers' did it - exploring how those messy complicated feelings between old friends are rearing their head at the WORST possible time. But it's definitely hard to watch.
