Am I only one who tries to watch this but sees the reaction to Born to die instead? Don't really know how to fix it hahaha

The 1969 song Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells ends with a section of glitched out sounding vocals and that is sort of mirrored in Venice Bitch with the extended glitched out guitar and synth work that starts midway through the song.

Great reaction, I have been looking forward to watch your reaction and it Did not disappoint, also, interestingly you said you wanted her to go deeper, well... get ready for the next three ones, specially her very last one, one of her best if not the best, it just got nominated for the Grammys in the category of Album of the year, Did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd.

I have a feeling that this album might stick with me...
Although; is it odd that at one point I thought about "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells from 1968 and "Bella Linda" by the Grassroots from the same year?
Inquiring minds I guess.

This album is definitely one of her best, if not her best. It’s not my favorite (that’s honeymoon) but I adore it. It’s a no skip album for me. And honestly I could’ve sat through another hour of this, so never worry about having long reactions.

Also, love how much you love How To Disappear - that song often gets unfairly slept on but is one of my faves! As others have said, she doesn't have kids, but talks about it a lot. I see the final verse of How To Disappear as wish fulfilment/looking into the future x

i do think nfr has some of the best promo that she's done, like live performances, interviews, and all that that i think would be fun to check out between this and chemtrails so there's less of a lana drought😭 she did a bunch of radio interviews that are fun and so many live performances, i also really really love the music vids from this era so much, they all have like 2 or 3 songs in one video and really set the surf rock vibes for this album!

so many thoughts! to help clarify some things maybe, no she doesn't have kids, the clementine thing was a rumor that kind of got out of control, she just writes about kids and wanting kids a lot (especially in the upcoming albums). she also at this time was dating this older guy for a while, but he ended up getting married to another woman while him and lana were still together and a couple of her songs on her next 3 albums are about him, but as far as we know she's single now! she has dated a couple random people recently but nothing serious that we know of. i think hope is a dangerous thing is my favorite off this album, mostly because of the honesty and it was really her first time getting into her past in her music in that way, and she does eventually explain a lot about her childhood and her family in the next 3 albums! specifically ocean blvd has some of her most personal songs on it that get really specific. she also does have some songs with her dad rob grant on his album too! he is a self proclaimed "nepo daddy", i actually met him and her sister chuck a day after i saw lana in concert in 2018 and he was so cool it was very random but they are very nice ppl!

Woah Cass this reaction was EVERYTHING. Never apologise for going line by line. Your analysis and insight is always so brilliant and so much fun to watch. Best Lana reactor out there!
Absolutely stunning album. Regarding Hope is a Dangerous Thing... you said you wanted her to go deeper. For some context, she was kicked out of home and sent away to boarding school at 14 because of her alcoholism, and she said on an IG live stream a while ago that after she finished boarding school she wasn't allowed to go home again. She was estranged from her father for a period of time after this as well which I gather is what the "Hi Dad" line refers to (she said in another IG live that that line was her basically reaching out to him to say "call me"). Her and her dad have a very close relationship now though. But not her mother. I always take the "black narcissist" verse as being about her mum (since the previous verse was about her dad). Hard to go into this any deeper at the moment without moving into spoiler territory, but more will become clear from her own mouth as you move through her discography.
"Serving up God in a burnt coffee pot for the Triad" seems to refer to serving coffee at AA meetings. There is an AA group called The Triad. So that's always been my interpretation of this line. She's said this is an incredibly personal song. Some of the lyrics seem quite coded, but it's a song that can be interpreted in a far deeper way when you know her history, her childhood, and when you've heard more recent songs she's written. It feels weird to me to talk so freely about her personal and private life - but this is all stuff that comes from her songs and things she's said herself before.
Chemtrails is next and then Blue Banisters. Really excited for the rest for your Lana journey!

Something that took me a long time to realise was when in Happiness is a butterfly, Lana says ‘he’s already hurt’, I took it as he has been hurt in the past. However, now I feel like she’s saying he has hurt other women in the past and she’s part of that cycle now, she can never break free of being hurt by men, the same way she can never achieve happiness.

Initial listening (and please forgive me, I'm dead to the world and standing on the bus stop)... I'm halfway through and there's one or two songs I'm not feeling. Again it's my initial. I'll revisit them more in depth when I have time.
Stopped for now at How To Disappear. It's my favorite so far.

There’s a vid on YouTube of her Grammy museum interview/performance with jack too, I’m pretty sure it’s filmed on an iPhone lol but it’s a really interesting talk I highly recommend!

Ok, chemtrails first, then blue banisters, bartender is a great song to introduce the next album and you liked it which is great, you are now entering the part of Lana's discography which is the most personal and open, the greatest was more about the culture going up in flames instead of her own career, in one interview she said that she wondered what Norman Rockwell would think of today's culture if he was still alive cause he always pained these perfect american scenes, also in another interview she said that a guy said to her "I think we're together because we're both sad" and she was like "what??? I'm not even sad rn" Which inspired mariners apartment complex, when it comes to her having a kid, she doesn't but you will hear more about that from her own mouth in blue banisters, I don't think anyone wrote a song about her back like Harry did for Taylor, but to answer your question she's single now I think and she broke up with the guy that chemtrails and blue banisters were about but we're really glad about that lol I saw her live this summer and she changed the lyrics of a song to shade him and it was the best thing ever
