Bug guy is creepy AF. Also we are getting introduced to humans that have chosen the dark, which makes everything so much more dangerous. When the monsters are people, that is that much wilder and weirder. I don't think you get away with a cop being a serial killer in teen series these days, but they did it in 1997.

2023-07-25 16:23:20 +0000 UTCRe Spike and and Drusilla, it’s a little more nuanced and complex than selfishness. You interpreted his abruptness towards her as lack of consideration and that he changes his tune only when he gets what he wants. It’s the exact opposite, Spike is short tempered, callous and aggressive towards everyone and it’s only with Drusilla that he’s capable of showing patience and tenderness as we see in the first moment he is introduced and Drusilla appears. Not to mention all the effort to find a cure for her.

2023-07-25 14:00:29 +0000 UTCI think you’re wrong about the power dynamic between spike and drusilla, it’s true she wasn’t at her full strength and he took care of her but we saw him look to her and listen to her for the final decisions making, he was just the muscles and did the work to restore her, but she is the one with psychic powers, and she was always “in charge” in the relationship. An example is when Ford went to find them and spike turned to dru and asked “permission” to kill him, she said not to and he backed down. Right in this episode he calls her “goddess”, he venerates her. In fact, spike is not much of a taking orders kind of vampire from anyone, very much like buffy, but drusilla is the only one he does take orders from. Speaking of buffy some little fun fact is that buffy and Spike have mirrored each other since Spike was introduced in the show. They share similar character traits, like buffy describes herself as rush and impulsive I believe in “Lie to me”, which is spikes entire personality. Also spike is known as an unconventional vampire, he doesn’t conform to the rules and traditions, he does things his way, and so does Buffy as a slayer as it is well established this ep. In “lie to me” both buffy and spike are the only 2 characters that don’t lie in the episode, and in this one episode they both say they rather be fighting with each other, expressing some sort of “respect” for the other fighting style, as buffy puts it she has “ fire and imagination” when it comes to fighting and so does spike, who in the Halloween episode had already expressed his “admiration” for buffy’s fighting skills while watching her performance, calling her resourceful. A more explicit sign of equality of these two characters is shown in spikes very first ep, when dru cut his cheek and in the scene later buffy has a stain of paint in the same spot on her cheek.
