2026-03-19 21:05:39 +0000 UTCIt started as HBO Max, switched to Max for legal negotiation/rebranding attempts, now its back to HBO Max because nobody cared and everyone complained, lol. You brought up the trees, so just a lore recap on the trees. The type of tree is called Weirwood trees, white bark with red leaves, and red sap. The ones with faces carved in them are called Heartwood trees and the sap leaks from the eyes to make it look like its crying. A Heartwood tree is usually in the center of areas called The Godswood or Godswood Groves. They are centers of worship for those that pray to the Old Gods. People built castles around them because they have been around for forever. We know that because the people that carved the faces are referred to as The Children of the Forest, people that came before The First Men. We also know that The First Men worshiped them, so they are really old and apparently stop growing once a face is carved into them, I guess, lol, because if you have ever carved something into a tree and come back years later, that carving has moved to a completely different part of the tree and is usually warped, lol. The reason he wears a skull on his face is because he is called Lord of Bones, lol, you missed that extremely brief intro when Ygritte walked up to the group with Jon in tow, lol. Things move fast in this episode, lol, difficult to keep up. Varys doesn’t want power because he already has it. He does have to constantly work on keeping it, though, especially with the Lannisters running things lol. Cersi captured Ros, believing she was Tyrion’s whore, which she was a couple times up in the North so Tyrion did recognize her. I loved that he not only just let Cersi believe that she had the right whore but how earnest he was towards Ros. Ros caught on to what he was saying and followed his lead because it was her best chance, still. But he quickly turned that moment of relief right back into controlled rage because he earnestly isn’t going to try to fail her. I felt that when he tried to comfort her and give her hope. As playful as Tyrion is, you can genuinely tell that he truly appreciates the ladies he sleeps with. He gratefully respects sex workers, whole heartedly. I love Jaqen H'ghar and Arya’s battle of wits and respect. You can tell he sees her quality and respects her cleverness. She manipulates him but she doesn’t hide any secret agenda; she’s tricky but she’s honest. Obviously, a sack of dragonglass blades is important because why would they show that scene to us at all, lol. They show it, they acknowledge it, and they cut away, lol. Its like, “um okay, Sam has got a bunch of dragonglass now, cool” lol. So it was brief but Rob Stark and Lord Roose Bolton discussed sending Lord Bolton's bastard son and troops to retake Winterfell. The following sex scene stole the spotlight, lol, but that was the what that very brief discussion was. Do you remember the Bolton's sigil? It has been brought up twice, very briefly. As a hint, do remember the kind of torture that Ned Stark banned in the North, that Roose Bolton suggested to Rob once until Rob reminded Roose that its banned even though its on the Bolton's sigil? Brienne of Tarth is really dope, lol. Originally, I thought Cat Stark releasing Jamie didn't make sense but than with some rewatches, I remembered how dramatic she was with Bran. She is a 'desperate momma bear' type of mom. She is full of dread at the unknown conditions of all her kids. it made sense to me then. She was bound to do impulsive things for her kids' safety. We barely met Podric (Pod) in this episode, Tyrion's new squire. The scenes with Tyrion, Bron, Pod, and Varys are some of my favorite banter scenes in the whole show, lol. You are partially correct about eunuchs. Eunuchs are not known for treachery, they were 'portrayed' as treacherous by the very people that were jealous of their positions near power and influence. They were also scapegoated by blaming them when there were failures within the dynasties but never when there were successes. They were treated as "other", unfairly so, because they are easy to blame for being 'different' rather than put blame on the sovereigns that actually were the ones in charge. Its literally the old tactic of powerful people shifting accountability and consequences onto someone easily picked on that can't do anything to retaliate or defend themselves. The "scheming eunuch" stereotype comes from the writings of their rivals only in the Confucian court of officials. Literally the old tactic of 'blame your competition of committing the crimes you yourself are committing', that every toxic cheater, grifter, and fascist throughout history did, lol. Eunuchs are blamed for ruining the empire rather than blaming the leaders who could have you executed for the slander, regardless of its truth. Eunuchs were also used as slaves, servants, guards, and clerics over the royal women, children, and harems because there wasn't any threat of them violating the innocence of those they were protecting. Eunuch boys also existed because it was believed castration prevented boys' voices from dropping so that they can keep singing the high notes in church for longer.
