Gunn said in a interview that originally Disney Execs wanted him to use Britney Spears music, but Gunn insisted on picking the songs and I'm glad he did, no disrespect to Spears but it wouldn't have been the same without the music Gunn picked.

2026-01-20 13:30:20 +0000 UTCI think due to some social media "fans" making a huge issue out of it, Disney thought they had no choice but to fire him, but when DC hired him a few months later to do Suicide Squad movie, I think Disney realized that "Cancel Culture" was pretty much over and you could work with someone who apologized for their past comments.

2026-01-19 07:42:40 +0000 UTCJust to put everything in context, after Guardians 2 a bunch of people who really didn't want this to happen dug up some things the director tweeted 10 years prior that were no longer acceptable to say so the "at the time" Disney CEO fired him. The actors said without James Gunn they wouldn't play these characters anymore. None of us thought this would even happen, but the people behind Marvel made Disney change their tune so that we could at least get some closure, resulting in them being in Infinity Wars, End Game, The Holiday Special, and this. James Gunn by this point had already signed on to run the future of the DC movies so this was as good a send off as we could hope for. By the time this was announced there was ZERO chance James Gunn had time to do another of these so we all knew this was it. This emotional train wreck is probably the best end James could have given us. Gamora's "I bet we were fun" was basically her saying "I get why we were together now, but that's still not me" I thought it was beautiful closure for both of them.

Something glitchy about your edits on this and holiday special, V. The reason these movies are developed around music is because of the comics. When you read the comics, they have notes about which songs you should listen to while reading them. Very cool and very rare idea with this art medium trying to bring the comics to life through music. There's only, like, 5 MCU movies to catch up on but the series have more connections to the films now, too. Ms Marvel is a big part of The Marvels film, Hawkeye intros a potential character replacement. You never know if these storyline are going to take off. Some just fizzle out, never resolved because studio tears up the contracts. She-Hulk is in the same boat but adds some lore on Bruce and hints at what he's doing/going to be doing. Echo and Eyes of Wakanda seemed to have gotten swept under the rug, I believe, along with the newer Daredevil season. Werewolf by Night is probably going to be referenced or a character cameo later but that's probably it. Wakanda Forever and Quantumania are going to be included lore with a couple new characters. Unclear however if the same actors will be, though, since some conflicts between Disney and their private lives made public. Secret Invasion is going to be a big part of some later films X-Men 97, The Amazing Spiderman, What If, and Marvel Zombies are going to referenced later with characters popping in most likely. Moonknight, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart will also be included later And Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America: Brave New World, and Fanstasic Four: First Steps are absolutely going to be important to later on stuff. And Loki season 2 is really a crucial part of what's coming soon.
