Prisoners

This was the most intense drama I have ever seen.. the performance from Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano were phenomenal. Mixed with such high stakes, intense subject matter this movie was INSANE

Hope you’ll join me for this wild ride πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

I thought this was going to be a prison escape movie.

Brian's Dog

Nightcrawler 2014 is my personal favorite Jake Gyllenhaal film so I'd also highly recommend that 😊✌

This is the same director who made Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and The new Dune films, Sicario 2015 is another must watch from him and Enemy 2013 (also starring Jake Gyllenhaal)

I remember suggesting this movie years ago in the comments because it's just such a quality film. I first watched this in a COLD discount movie theater one night in October. The cold helped this movie chill me to the BONE. Felt like I was there with them. I was so insanely engrossed and so impressed with all the performances! I desperately wanted to show my parents the movie after it was over, for reasons I can't quite explain. Maybe because Hugh was mostly known to their generation just as Wolverine, and I wanted them to see him in a new light. You can imagine just how messed up Barry and Bobby's brain chemistry became, drinking the (I assume) LSD, plus other stuff cocktail for so long, longer than the girls, and without medical attention the girls were able to get. Also, giving kids unsolvable mazes to attempt to solve to busy themselves with and use as an incentive to both give them hope of the reward of going home, and also to not attempt to escape, (the sticker on the maze book said when you solve them you can go home), in their drugged out state, is unbelievably cruel.

This film leaves me with feelings unresolved, which might be the point. The helpless feeling of never having an answer like so many people connected to missing person's feel. However, there this lacking feeling about the way the film was done that I can't shake. Like the pieces that connected everything weren't well established, although maybe also the point. Leaving us with the same feelings a detective might feel for missing the connection between things. I had my suspicions when Alex's aunt didn't report him and the dog missing because of some weak excuse. This film loaded you up with red herrings left and right, though. Also a possible point of the film since investigative leads can be all over the place.

Prisoners is not just the children literally, but the parents too. Also, when I recommended this movie was when after you had watched Seven and Gone Girl. Wild villain too, it's interesting seeing how damaged Dano and Dasmalchian became after what they went through as kids. Unlike them though, the girls do have their families still to support them through their trauma.

Oh I'm always so happy to see a Denis Villeneuve film even though this one is such a horrific watch, thanks V
