Ashton Irwin - Blood On The Drums (Part 2) Album Listening Party/Uncut Reaction

Comments

Ashton deserves so much more mainstream recognition for this incredible album. Everyone needs to hear it. It is so rare for every song of an album to be beautiful and unique, but Ash can deliver. I agree with your thoughts on Endless Wave, it is my least favorite because his vocals don't shine, but regardless it is almost like a Superbloom esque sound , a lullaby ending to the album, a perfect fit.

I've listened to this album many times since it came out and I realised just now watching this that in Wild Things there's a lyric that says ''Your thorns protect your roses'' which could mean the first part of the album (The thorns) It's the more strong, out there part of himself, and the second part (The roses) is his most vulnerable side, it's probably obvious haha but I just noticed and it totally changed the perspective of the album for me. Great reaction video, related to most of the things you said, keep it up!

This half (The Roses) is such a different sound to the first half (The Thorns), but it complements it so well and I'm absolutely obsessed with the production and lyricism on this half. California Holds Her Breath was one I was most excited about when Ashton first announced the project and, as someone who was born and raised here, it always fascinated me to see the perspective of my home state from people who live elsewhere. Glory Days just has that incredibly nostalgic freeing feeling, which I absolutely love. Also one of my favorite vocal moments on this half. Wild Things is the track on this half that resonated with me the most. It's just so incredibly comforting and is the kind of love we should all strive to have in our lives, platonic or otherwise. Someone who will be there for us in our good times and bad, accepting us for who we are regardless of the parts we try to hide from the rest of the world. As someone who is a chronically anxious overthinker with a mind that often goes a million miles an hour, this was absolutely the song I needed to hear and I'm so thankful that this song exists. This project is a completely different vibe from Superbloom and you can tell just how excited Ashton is about it. His passion for music and getting to do what he loves as a career every single day is truly admirable. I hope I get the opportunity to experience this project live someday ❤️
