Nick Jonas - Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

Nick Jonas - Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

while most theatre fans were pretty unhappy with his casting, this performance is from the 25th anniversary performance of les mis, which you can find for free on vimeo. its my personal favorite cast of les mis. it’s concert style, but you don’t miss the story because it’s a sung through musical. i think you would enjoy it, even if you don’t react to it.

This play is set in the French revolution. This song "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" is about all the friends that used to gather who have been killed in battle. During the height of the AIDS epidemic, this song was a really important song and was often dedicated to all the lives of young actors that died. Today its still sung at charity events and Broadway fundraisers to honor those who lost from HIV/ AIDS . When sung well with all the emotion and vocal power, it should make the audience sob. I give Nick a lot of credit for putting himself out there. I like how you mentioned that we know he had to really train and dedicate time and energy to pull this off. I can't imagine singing this low came naturally to him. Still a great performance, but it doesn't make me sob.

Nick is amazing, but Les Misérables is my all-time favourite musical and while this performance is good, it just doesn't really hit me emotionally.

Thank you so much for doing this! He’s an absolute star on broadway! Hairspray and How To Succeed is some of his best! I can’t wait to see him in Jersey Boys.

the theatre fans are very clear and open about this role for Nick they aren't fans. I don't think it was the best role for him he's a great singers but Les Mis/Marius' is meant to sound very theatre & classical but guess they wanted some younger viewers in chairs in the west end & cinemas but it worked because this role is actually what got me into liking theatre tbh like I watched grease and hairspray films but I defs got into musicals due to Nick in Les Mis. He's going to be in the Jersey Boys pro shot and as someone who is a huge Jonas fan (note the profile pic) I'm still on the fence of him playing Frankie yes he can hit the notes but he usually does it for like 1 word not sentences but I'm ready to be proved wrong. But the theatre fans liked him in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying defs a better role for him.

Ok don’t get me wrong, I LOVEEEEEE Nick, but he just doesn’t have a Broadway voice IMO. Anytime I see a clip of him singing Broadway I cringe.
