living in such an overwhelming world can be extremely exhausting, especially for a highly sensitive girl like myself.
many HSPs experience exhaustion. This is because highly sensitive brains process stimuli more deeply. so I had to come up with personal ways to soothe myself in such a chaotic world.
so, if you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed or your anxiety is getting high, take some time to try some of these self-soothing exercises. they've helped me plenty, so I hope they'll help you as well.
close your eyes, breathe consciously, and escape
- practicing mindful meditation is an excellent way to step back and observe your thought and feelings. it helps you learn to stay with those difficult feelings without suppressing and encouraging them. while meditating, close your eyes and picture yourself in your favorite nature setting. I personally like to picture myself in the breath of the wild, laying on my back at the great plateau.
Take some time to recharge and restore at least once throughout the day.
- spending some hours alone is extremely crucial for me. It's how I recharge! Try to Plan ten-thirty minutes to lie down in a quiet room after a long day. Schedule alone time before parties or any overwhelming events. it's important to avoid back-to-back activities to get the downtime you need.
listen to a song that connects you with a positive memory or instrumentals that relaxes you.
- put on your favorite playlist and jam out! nothing feels better than chillin' and listening to your favorite artist.
let! yourself! cry!
- What's a better way to release stress than crying!? trust me if you feel overwhelmed and nothing seems to help, cry it out! emotional tears release stress hormones
create art
- it doesn't matter if you can "only draw stick figures" create art simply because you can.
drink your favorite warm beverage
- it's scientifically proven that hot beverages help you relax! When drinking a warm beverage, it enters your body, expands your blood vessels, and improves circulation. Increased blood flow is linked to muscle relaxation! I personally like drinking hot camomile tea
get some fresh air!
- going for a walk or even just opening up a window for air circulation can help improve your mood so much.
so if you're feeling overwhelmed I hope these tips can help! I also highly recommend the self-help books "I need some serious me time", and "The empowered highly sensitive person." these two books have helped me a lot in this chaotic world.
