A real mother limits it to Humans, however a stepmother can be both human and Pokémon, creating the possibility that the protagonist is one of the few people compatible with Pokémon who can create babies (she did it with the father and he is not compatible so she turns to him to have her own children) or that she simply does it with the son for fun.
