Erick Flatt, [60-ish] [Current Year: 14

Comments

Idk how I feel about fae being higher than true wizards.

AL

Agree. Plus for all we know going Fae is a dead end or mistake of some kind. Maybe there's something beyond Fae that can be gotten to if you avoid that trap.

John Anastacio

It seem odd that Erick isnt trying to remake and of the "Old Wizard" spells he knows about now that he is out of the script. Like the "Invunerable Form" type one that was the greater versions of the -dmg wards he uses. He also has not tried any of the paradox type magics for stuff like time, dispell( tricking stuff off etc. He also hasnt tried to enchant any items in the methods that should still work like when he was in the Dark or in the Fae spaces with mana crystals and world tree wood.

Findell

I mean we will get Fae Erick eventually. But he literally just ascended to true Wizardry. He's not looking for more personal power right now. At least no massive leaps the way jumping to the third tier of existence would be.

Brisingaer

Sure when the stakes were lower and he understood much less about things and hadn't changed as he has. But since has changed, the stakes are incredibly high, and he does understand much more now taking a "the future will be always like the past with him" stance is kinda odd....

tibbish

Eh, not that I disagree, but Erick has resisted every strength bump in the whole series, especially when he already has a negative association with it. Makes sense to me

BaguaBrady

Thanks

Thando Nkadimeng

That doesn't seem to make sense though. He obviously, due to Benevolence, won't be any 'normal' sort've fae. And the sorts of people who won't like him then are the sorts who won't like him no matter what. They can't be reasoned with. So why bother weakening himself for 0 benefit? When you add in that more power gives him more options and acts as a deterrent for shit stirrers its kinda a no brainer even if wants to be unreasonable about it. Which would go against his creedo

tibbish

I am looking forward to him advancing the cultivating path.

Chris

Yea but his element is kinda made for benevolence. How is becoming a benevolent fae gonna make him worse? I think it is just a fear he has to get over to do more good. What's that age old saying, evil prospers when good men do nothing? What would the world be like if good men strove for power and could hold it without corrupting themselves?

Overclocked

he doesn't want to be a fae right now. most people who have been around fae doesn't really like them, and Erick is no real exception to that

Arcs

Seems odd that he didn't just 'finish' cultivating. He'd have more power + his size problem would be irrelevent at that point.

tibbish

Incoming Erick super reson wizard confirmed

Deegles

I mean, most of the fae he's met are...suboptimal people. Being completely immune to death is probably the ultimate expression of "absolute power corrupts absolutely" and Erick has already bent more of his morals than he likes, I imagine. To him, becoming fae is probably another step down that path.

Collateral_ink

Nice

enleed

Seems a little silly that he doesn't want to work towards Fae ascension. It would solve all kinds of problems for him. Including threatening him with death. Fae get to cheat in all kinds of ways that I'm sure Erick would love to benefit from if it doesn't alter his mental as a consequence.

Patchumz

Oh so the change makes things better. He's now a mote in god's eyes that decided to know the being he was in. That's cool.

Heru Kane

Not the same. Not to me anyway.

Heru Kane

Oh ok so Erick is the chosen of a Universal Fae and is a lot more powerful individually than he thought. Also wow I thought the Fae Enclave was gonna fuck him over. But a lot more reasonable than I thought. So I guess Erick is doing some side quests while figuring out the politics and logistics of how to deal with all the tasks the Fae enclave wants him to complete. Thanks for the chapter

Zero

There was an entire arc that he spent as a mentally altered and mind controlled puppet.

Bob

Ah, so that is what special about big M's mantle? It is half of a conversation with the universal soul fae? The fae of chaos?

Ano Ano

So thank you for this. But I do have to admit the Conversation felt like a bit loss of agency for Erick. I've never felt this way this entire story before.

Heru Kane

Thanks for the chapter, Arcs. I've been anticipating and dreading Erick's meeting with the Fae Enclave; it wasn't nearly as bad and insulting and soul-destroying as I expected it to be.
