Milestones and magnus fancast!

Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Firstly, we have another announcement regarding a stretch goal that we reached during the Kickstarter campaign for The Magnus Protocol! A fancast for the show will be launching very soon as we host a series of livestreams with cast members from The Magnus Protocol where they’ll listen to and chat about episodes chosen by you! The livestreams will be exclusively available to watch live for Patreon supporters and Kickstarter backers, though a VOD will be shared at a later date.

Before this though, we need you to choose your favourite episode from The Magnus Protocol for us to listen to on the streams. Head to this form, and select up to five episodes you think we should feature! Voting closes on 18th November at 23:45 GMT.

Next up, a quick reminder that the pre-sale period for the incredible The Magnus Protocol clothing collection from Knock Thrice finishes on 17th November - make sure you've placed your order so you don't miss out, as there will only be a limited amount of overstock items available after the pre-sale! View the full collection at: https://knockthrice.ca/collections/the-magnus-protocol

A few months ago we hit an incredible milestone on our YouTube channel – 100k subscribers, for which we just received our very own silver plaque to commemorate the achievement. Thank you to everyone who has listened to our shows there!

There has been a great showing for RQ Network shows at The 7th Annual Canadian Podcast Awards:

Motzie Dapul creator, writer and director of Hi Nay had this to say about the nomination “THANK YOU to our Patrons and listeners for supporting us, it wouldn't have been possible without you! We're up against some amazing titles, including our friends over at Malevolent!”

In other news from the RQ Network we are very happy to be hosting the very first episode of Planet Arcana on the Magnus archives feed right now for a limited time.

Please take a listen and if you want to support planet arcana and its creators, until November 15th, at 10 PM PST head to rustyquill.com/foolserrand

Finally, as a follow up to last week’s great news of the team behind The Other Stories at Hawk and Cleaver joining the RQ Network, today we’re very pleased to be featuring an interview from one of their talented team Andy Conduit-Turner about one of their other brilliant shows Horror Hangout.
Horror Hangout is a weekly TV, Film and Film reviews podcast hosted by Luke Kondor, Ben Errington and featuring a range of guests discussing new releases, cult classics, flops and underatted gems.

You can find more details, and listen to them on our website at: https://rustyquill.com/show/horror-hangout/

Or find a full list of Hawk and Cleaver shows at: https://theotherstories.net/

Horror Hangout

Co-host: Andy Conduit-Turner

Tell us who you are and a bit about The Other Stories?

Horror Hangout began in 2017, with to goal of reviewing every film on Empire Magazine's top 50 horror films of all time. From this very targeted origin...whether you call it dark prophecy or nominative determinism, we evolved into our name.

Today, Horror Hangout is a relaxed horror podcast where film fans gather to talk all things horror, and discuss the very best, and worst horror films of all time.

Ben and Andy (that's us, hello), are your primary hosts we are also regularly joined by film makers, stars, journalist and fellow fans for a new discussion and (hopefully) entertaining asides every week.

What got you into podcasting?

Both of us are huge podcast fans and listeners as well as both being involved with our beloved story telling community at "The Other Stories".

The ongoing appeal of podcasts to us, it that even in this era of heavily sponsored podcast content from more traditional media outlets, there's still fantastic space for independent voices to tell stories, find an audience, and showcase their passions.

Podcasting has also been a great tool for bringing people together, meeting new friends and bonding over shared interests - Despite speaking almost daily, we live in very different parts of the country both to each other and most of our guests.

What are you most proud about Horror Hangout?

Both of us have taken a lot of pride in expanding our coverage from main stream and iconic releases, into more niche genre cinema, independent films and most recently on the ground coverage at film festival events.

Meeting with creators, being given the time of day to discuss horror with them, and some very kind feedback on the depth of our live coverage has been really rewarding for both of us.

In addition to this it's individual messages we receive, that means perhaps more than any number of downloads or chart rankings...

As a conversational podcast, where we don't heavily produce or overly curate our opinions, it makes our dark little hearts swell, whenever we hear someone who has connected with our nonsense discussions and silly chat about things we love. When we occasionally hear that we've helped someone through a difficult time, or pointed someone towards a new favourite film, it makes every minute spent infinitely worth it.

Who is the Horror Hangout for?

It's for you! Seriously though - We like to make the show accessible (references to very specific era UK life aside) - You don't need an encyclopaedic knowledge of the genre, or a degree in film production to follow along - heck in most cases you don't even need to have seen the film to come and Hangout with us.

Have a good week all!

Honestly! I was thumbing through my notes like “hm which pages have the most exclamation points” but it was still so hard

(Psst — I think the images in this newsletter got lost!) HUUUUUGE congrats to all of the Canadian RQN award nominees!!! All stellar shows, personal favorites of mine and very deserving of recognition :) Best of luck! I started digging into The Other Stories this past week and I’m already loving it! The suggested stories in last week’s newsletter were very well selected, definitely hooked me. There’s so much backlog… This should keep me busy for a while😅 And I’m so so so excited for the fancast, it was so hard to choose just five favorites. Can’t wait to find out which episodes are most popular. There’s still so many Protocol goodies to look forward to, it’s really keeping me going as the weather gets colder. Cheers, hope everyone at Rusty Towers is staying warm and getting lots of fortifying rest! 💛

Anthony

Same here! Certainly no complaints about that though, haha <3

I think I have to re-listen to Protocol so I can vote for my favorite episodes
