Bargue #1, The Psyche of Napoli

This is the very first lesson that you will undertake as a student of drawing. It is simple, but challenging.

The goal, the target you are trying to hit is not a perfect reproduction of the Bargue- it is to experience and internalise the concepts present in this lithograph. Namely- what is a shadow shape, a light shape, how to block in using straight lines, triangulation, and more.

I hope you enjoy this re-edit of this lesson- I tried to make it flow as well as it could and to keep it as short and dense as possible as well.

For an unedited look at very mark on the paper:

Both places are good. Drawing essentials part 1 and 2 are good lectures to watch. Part 3 is a rather complex exersize.

Stephen Bauman Artwork

Hi Stephen, just joined thanks to your YouTube Chanel. I am a beginner. Should I start here or in Drawing essential collection. Or even before first lesson here draw the basic bargue plates? My goal is to paint abstracted portrait based on observation and with focus on colour. But I would love to be good at proportion and value masses first. Thank you.

Things always seem deceptively simple. . .
