The Atelier Tier, Color Study #1, Complimentary

Now that we have all of the pre-painting color theory in the bag it is time to put it to the test.

In this lesson, you will be painting a complementary color theme (violet + yellow).

The application of paint will be bold and direct- no smudging. The goal is to create a mosaic of color values that, together, add up to an accurate impression of the subject.

My palette here is: Titanium white, Old Holland yellow-brown, vermillion extra, cobalt blue, and ivory black.

Medium is linseed oil, and the painting is made on an acrylic primed linen.

Omg...I'm so slow! I could not keep up. I will watch it separately then try again. I got so discouraged I wiped my painting off and left the imprint of the underpainting. The color mixing is what is taking me longer. Is it possible to premix some of the main colors before hand ? Then we can focus on the adjustments in color and laying the paint down in the actual lesson. Just a thought to help us 'newbies'.

Hi Guido. These topics are covered in the palette exercises and color theory lessons: https://sbanavigation.com/collections/patreon/products/color-theory-practice

I found this very interesting, however, as someone who is new to this, I wish that you would have covered more concepts in the first lesson related to how to change a chroma with other colours. For example, at one point, you used yellow to change the chroma of a violet (if I recall correctly). Why is that? What's the though process behind that decision? Good stuff. Thanks.
