Materials:
- The palette I am using is, Flake white, Old Holland yellow-brown, vermillion extra, alizarin crimson, raw-umber/sepia-extra, and Ivory black.
- Brushes are Utrecht manglon flat, Blick scholastic wonder white synthetic, Rosemary brush co. eclipse extra long comber.
- Medium is cold pressed linseed oil from CCS art materials.
- Paper is stonehenge stretched on panel primed with PVA size from Gamblin.

In a way yes. There isn't an easy way to explain it in text, but the half tines need to be keyed in relation to the shadows and the highlight. If you only key to the shadow they will likely come out too light.

2021-05-08 11:51:07 +0000 UTCI'm painting another image of Alyssa and having a hard time with values. I was matching the colors maybe a little too to the tee and end up with a washed out painting. Do you usually interpret the reference a little differently? Such as darker shadows and lighter highlights to create a more dynamic skin tone?
