Sargent Master Copy Materials

Hello Everyone! Here is all of the stuff you will need to work along with me:

UPDATE: I have added links to the exact paint colors for my palette.

The video download links and source image will be sent to you via Patreon messenger on April 1st.

Palette: Flake white (you can use titanium if you like), Old Holland's yellow-brown (yellow ochre is not a good sub for this color), Old Holland's vermillion extra, Alizarin crimson, Ivory black.

Brushes (you can use as much of these particular brushes as you like, or use your own brushes as well):  Blick Wonder White Synthetics, long handle. Filbert 2-6, round 1-6. 2. Rosemary Brush Co. Eclips Extra Long Combers, flats 1/8-3/4. 3. Utrecht Manglon Synthetic Brushes. Flats 4-8, round 4-10. Links below:

Canvas: I am painting here on an acrylic primed hardboard panel. However, you can also use an oil or acrylic primed linen with a very fine weave. Raymar makes a good linen on panel solution, the 13 DP oil primed linen from Claessens adhered to a hardboard panel. Not inexpensive but a very high quality.

Medium: A drop or two of linseed oil in a cup.

Hi Stephen. Is this the first master copy? Cheers, Chris

Hi Marissa, Substituting colors is tricky. In this particular case trying to substitute Old Holland's yellow-brown (not an ochre). Golden Ochre can be okay, indian yellow as well. But they will perform differently. Hard to say what is close to vermillion extra- cad red medium is often suggested but it has way more tinting strength. Bottom line is: substitute in whatever way you need to but beware that you can experience some variance in the outcome. Just get as close as you can with what you can see and I think you will make it.

What is a good substitute for the Yellow Ochre then? And what is closest to the Vermillion extra? I only have access to Daniel Smith oil colors/ some gamblin/ some windsor newton- and I cannot mix them all.....but I cannot buy more oil colors :(
