Learning New Skills

One of the things that good creators do is never stop still, always be willing to learn. I also think this applies to anything in life. The good admit their weaknesses, the best take action to mitigate them while the average person would bury their head in the sand. To that end i bought these books a while ago, but a huge workload at the time prevented me from fully exploring them. Last time i learned skills was for the renpy novel engine, my mistake was to launch an open world game in a novel engine with no knowledge of that engine or how to code. I hold my hands up to that, the game bombed and got 2 out of 5 on f95, the game website. The mistake was to create whilst learning with the added pressure of meeting my obligations. Did i fail? No! I successfully found the way NOT to do it and subsequently how it should be done. To that end, i am now going to go through one or more of these, in order and in my spare time, updating you on my progress. The trouble is which one to go for first? I like to fully concentrate on 1 thing at a time. Any comments or feedback appreciated. Dont worry i am still doing videos, ill just post pictures or updates on my learning with them. -Apo.

Everyone loved Valia...and Xala as well I noticed. My mistake was as I said launching straight into it all while learning and with deadlines per month and not understanding coding or the renpy engine. I've learned from it though, Renpy would be good for short interactable stories but not open world. As for Valia well....I may have given up on the renpy game but I haven't given up on Valia, remember PC Emily was in the game and she met Valia...well....need I say more?

Indeed, I have always thought that a great solution to being set in ones ways is to find someone or the opposite to a held view and listen to it, it can be a very heated thing and can really hurt the ego but if people are willing to go against what they currently believe. Though still holding ones views or skills it shows you at least acknowledge the other opinion as valid even if not correct. Skills are likewise, you are combating your self and your own mind to change itself to hold this new knowledge and to use it.

And I liked Valia. The mechanics of the animations were non-intuitive though. I didn't realize they were full minute-long animations until I had played a few times because that is not normal in RenPy. Most devs break up the animations with loops and clicks

Open world style on RenPy is REALLY hard to do. The code ends up being damn near impossible to follow/debug. The most successful models I have seen are using linear story lines with many characters, but limit the cross-over and variable interaction between those lines. Then the complex multi-character scenarios have their own story lines.

So true, when we stop learning things, is when we finally start to grow old and wrinkle up, lol
