Learning Unity, New Avatar & Cover.

Well you saw yesterdays photo with the frozen scene well now, my 2nd ever use of Unity I've made some grass and trees, with shade...in 3d!

Getting better so that by the time Valia: Life of a Succubus is done I know what I am doing.

Also check out my cheeky new avatar pic and the newly designed cover at the top of the patreon page.

I really wish that I could take my Daz studio Assets and Import them into Unity for all the Art assets, would make creating the world, and Char's SUPER easy. I'm really liking the Map editor that they have built in, and I saw that they had some pretty cool scripts to make masic game play easy. Fungus, Itween (not images, some kind of scripting setup for encounters.), free inventory system, and a bunch more stuff. Really wish that I hadn't been so pig headed and went to a college to learn Programming when I was younger.

Perversity

So I got to looking at Unity. Because I like what I was seeing with the Environment, and in the Unity store is a free asset called free speed trees. Looks like it might do what we talked about, with fast drops of trees.

Perversity

I...thank you. I know it's not the same storyline or controls but i'll keep going and get this game complete for everyone. I appreciate the support.

Icarus Media

Apo its looking great ,just played through what you have so far ,I too supported Simbro but after this latest string of issues i worry that the project will go the way of breeding season ,and many other good but never finished games ,I moved my support from them to your project ,Keep up the good work . :))

No this is in Unity, not flash. Also i'm finishing my current game before i start using Unity properly. So it will be many months before i start using it for games. This post was to show that i am learning it. :-)

Icarus Media

Is this is in all or flash of so I have no problem supporting

Oh10

Also forgot to say nice Avatar. Asses are nice, but talking about nerd shit is what I miss the most. ))) There is all kinds of ass I get to look at day to day. ))) But smart people are the RARITY where I live.

Perversity

Okay..... I would have thought that Compiler was the hardest since everything would be 0 and 1. But yeah that would annoy the shit out of me with Brainfuck. Thanks for the run down, I didn't realize that Java was running the way of the Dinosaur. ))) But I knew that C++ was a B**** in every way shape and form... I wouldn't be able to work in it because of how horrible it is. I like the sound of C# from what you and others I know have told me. But yeah Python will probably be the one that I get into the most, at least for the time being. ))) I can see how switching from Python to C# would screw you with the code being similar minus the spacing issues. I do like the way that you describe unity map editor, to me it almost sounds like there is a programming side, and a world builder side to Unity so you could effectively have 2 teams working on the game with each person focusing on their own piece of the pie. )))

Perversity

And here you are now :)

The hardest programming language to learn is called 'Brainfuck' and to simply write 'Hello World' you write: ++++++++[>++++[>++>+++>+++>+<<<+>+>->>+[>.>---.+++++++..+++.>>.>+.>++.

Icarus Media

There probably is a way, maybe increasing brush size since Unity has it's own Tree tool for constructing trees, I'm not kidding, there is a section of unity devoted to trees. As for being lazy Python is a good beginner code, it is certainly the most versatile as you can use it for just about anything whereas other languages have specific things they were intended for. Languages like MATLAB for maths, ADA for orbit predictions etc etc. Javascript is sort of dying really and the fact it has split into so many scripts (Unityscript, Unrealscript etc) says that. I think C# is good because it's not so different once you have a look at it from Python. It can do more than it's predecessor C but is not as complicated and unforgiving as C++. A few examples are that C# and Python will tell you where an error is and sometimes what type, C++ however...doesn't. Imagine one compile error and you have to go through all your code for your game right now to find it. Yep that's C++. C# is nicer and lets you know. As for spacing well you know how Renpy and Python is based upon 4 spaces per tab right? and the indentation has to be correct. Well in C# there is no spacing. Yep none at all. Write however you want as long as you spell right and put it in {Brackets}

Icarus Media

That's pretty cool dude, I like that it already has some basic packages built in. )))) Makes life a little easier over all. Plus less things you need to in-port. Would be good if there was a random tool that you could use to randomize the choices per item placed that way you can easily build a forest or what not. Yeah I've seen a lot of professional games use Unity engine, but most of the people I've talked to lately around Patreon are going for Unity. But I don't really talk to all that many people. ))) So c# and Python are the way to go if you REALLY want to be lazy. LOL ))) Heh yeah I can imagine how the spacing would mess you up. I LOVE how simple it is to write in Ren'Py things are mostly non-thinking. Just attention to detail.

Perversity

You would!

Icarus Media

Love your new Avatar <3 :D

DragonFire

Hey I remember before I started creating looking up at you and your work and thinking "I will get there". :-)

Icarus Media

No-one steals bird's fish now innit ;-)

Unity itself does have asset packages you can import, for this one I selected a conifer tree asset, note the singular. You have to configure height and width yourself and click per time you want to put one down. As for Unity, yeah both Unity and Unreal Engine are the ones that are currently used in the industry, alongside the C languages, especially for microsoft and google etc. Unity allows you to use either Javascript (although it is somewhat different enough that people call it unityscript), Boo (which is based on Python) or C#. Unreal Engine allows for Unrealscript (another modification on Javascript), C++ (Which it was built in) and newly put in is C# capability through using the monodevelop IDE which Unity also has) Differences between C# and Python are mainly words used and spacing. Coming from a Renpy/Python background the spacing was the first WTF moment.

Icarus Media

So did you actually create all the trees yourself, or is it some art assets that you brought in from somewhere else? It is looking pretty badass atm though, good job. I'd like to learn how to work in Unity, one of the guys I work with now is a programmer c#, c++, Java, Java HTML, and some other things. I talked with him about trying to get out online and see if anyone wants to work with him as a unity programmer, since there are so many companies out there that are using it now, plus it seems a lot of the adult games are using Unity now as well. )))

Perversity

Well, that's certainly the most jacked seagull I've ever seen

centerflag982

I'm so jealous! Can't wait to work on Unity myself. A fitting book is already in my possession for a while now.
