Path's not traveled (

Howdy,

  So for the first time in over a week, I feel like I slept a little. Not a huge amount, but a bit. The chapter is still 1k in, but I'm having to excise about 400 or so words. You see, I was trying to figure out the rewards that would work with Walker's use of the Trinity strand, and came up with an idea I thought would be super cool.

However, the longer I worked at it, the more problems I saw in how it would be implemented across the entire series. Essentially, it would have the same effect as Bloodlines, and I didn't want to double down on something that is unnecessary. I considered, briefly, merging bloodlines and this idea, but it would have been very messy and contrived.

Rather than doing that, I'm deleting it. However, since I didn't publish a chapter this last weekend, I thought you guys would enjoy reading something I didn't do. A path not traveled, as it were.

History: 

Traits are special considerations within the Omniverse. 

When a universal colony expands into the ever-sprawling domain of the (redacted), they are gifted with the elements of strength necessary for their continued survival. 

As the colony continues to build its strength, low-ranking challenges will begin to appear to prepare them for integration into the Omniverse proper.

Originally, traits were assigned by race; however, this was rebelled against by the (redacted) (redacted). The (redacted) made the magnanimous decision to change the assignment of traits to fit the individual better. 

This caused a great deal of confusion, and across the ten-eon War, powerful and often painful traits manifested within individuals across multiple colonies. The application of the updated trait markers by the (redacted) was the only true path toward the war finally ending. 

Now, careful consideration is given to each individual across the Omniverse through a powerful collection of different markers, and as new traits are found, the (redacted) are forced to update their framework.

Definition: 

Traits are unique to each individual.  

They are not granted but instead are earned across their lifetime. 

Many scholars believe Traits are assigned at birth; however, the (redacted) have stated on the record that all traits are merely enhanced qualities given physical form.

Initially, traits are weak and can be seen by those with a limited understanding of the matter as useless. But after a trait is unlocked in myriad ways, they grow with the entity, often becoming an incredible boon that will assist them in their travels. 

The three most famous traits in public records are listed below:

(Redacted): Luck's Chosen

The (Redacted) has been seen multiple times across his lifetime dodging strikes that assuredly should have landed and defeating famous opponents in battles that should by all rights be lost. He has never been recorded as losing at a game of chance. This caused (Redacted) to be banned at any betting or gambling houses across the Omniverse, to their great consternation. 

(Redacted): Builder Bob

The (Redacted), who began life as the smallest spark of sapience, grew to become one of the largest members in the history of the Omniverse. Their talent allowed them to discover new materials to devour and replenish their body mass, single-handedly destroying multiple colonies before they were eventually stopped. 

(Redacted): Technological Mastery

There is not a great amount of information pertaining to the mastery of technology themself. However, it is known that the (redacted) have kept a singular master hidden from any prying eyes as they built an empire of metal and power. Many of the (redacted)’s worlds are the wonders of the Omniverse, bringing travelers from the deepest reaches of space and time. However, the cost of citizenship is prohibitive to those who do not have the deep pockets of the elite.
