He was a side guitarist in Jon Spencer's PUSSY GALORE in the 80s, then had his own project, ROYAL TRUX with his then gf/wife Jennifer Herrema, for 20 something years. I know Gregg knew them bitd - IIRC, they recorded their darker than bleak masterpiece TWIN INFINITIVES on his 8 track. Much of Neil's stuff can be somewhat (sometimes willfully) impenetrable, but he's put out some great, approachable stuff, too. I think NEIL HAGERTY & THE HOWLING HEX from 2003 has some fantastic work that operates in a 70s singer songwriter realm (albeit with some unique guitar solos). PLAYS THAT GOOD OLD ROCK AND ROLL from 2002 is another good one. I dunno, he's an acquired taste, for sure, but after hearing these weirder Dylan tracks, thought I'd pass it on.
