Hey, i would optain your opinion about some critism someone have with me

I recently had a long discussion about the fact that, as a developer, I have the freedom to work on any project I choose. I take the development of LDR very seriously, and I assure you that I mean no disrespect by using a portion of the funds I receive here to support my life and hobbies.

Someone argued that I am a scammer because I don’t dedicate 100% of the money earned here solely to the development of the game, claiming that I lack transparency. I want to clarify that I am a developer who genuinely loves creating games—it’s both my profession and my passion. I spend a significant amount of time every day working on game development, and I pour my heart into it.

It’s also true that I sometimes explore side projects or hobby creations, and if those reach a level of quality I’m proud of, I may decide to share them as real productions. According to this person, that makes me dishonest because I’m not being entirely upfront.

I disagree. By supporting me here, you’re not only funding access to LDR, but also my life as a human being, my creative vision, and the work I produce as a whole. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how you feel about this. I value your trust and support deeply, and I will always strive to be worthy of it.

It’s possible that this person didn’t fully understand how independent Patreon developers operate, but I’d love to hear your perspective!

Thanks !! I hope you will like this project and my test/side project when it will be public !

Both of the top options for me, I'm paying for the game but that money is yours and I support you using it however you want. It's actually cool that it goes into producing things other than this one game, even if the other things don't interest me as much. I paid for the game, and your professional development is an awesome little extra I get to see as well.

Clockwork Bunny

Ok it's totally what my work ethics do the game will take years to be made , but everyone will see than the advancement of the project are clear from one yar to another, without any doubt or complexe explanation my first thoug is the project will in total need 4 or 5 year from the start (actually 1.5 )

As the option to choose isn‘t precise enough for my point of view, I will put it additionale here. I vote for „pay for the game“. But I will make a additional statement. I feel that you are free to use our payments as how do you feel about it. I have payed for the „game“. As long as it got finished at a reasonable timeframe, I‘m fine with that. If you are using it otherwise and the game is in development for many many years, than I see a problem there.

Thanks , all of the community support help me to feel better about these things

LivingDolls

It's exactly the core of our debate. So I guess everyone understand it same has me Wich is a relief to read to be honest

LivingDolls

It's what I thought but these people manage to make me think this thinking is the scammy one so I have to ask my community. I don't want to make you feel bad about how I manage the project since I try my best.

LivingDolls

I don't think I'm dishonest. I use the far majority of what I obtain for the project and only for that. My life and hobby are clearly secondary in expense

The only thing I ask for is a road map, reasonable progress, and transparency in regards to what you plan on using those funds as they increase. If you were making $5000 a month and spending $4500 on yourself and very little noticeable progress is made, I would just stop supporting. If, however, the exact same scenario existed and the update made it clear you worked hard on it, I'd be happy. Since you are independent, we are basically paying for your work time. I doubt you can perform at your best for long if you're not well rested, fed, and stable. Don't feel doubts due to someone thinking you're a scammer. Just keep everyone aware of major changes/hurdles you run into and otherwise prove them wrong with inspired work.

From my understanding a lot of patreon creators use the funds they receive as sole source of income if it is substantial enough. Some use it not only create the game, but to keep the lights on, keep them fed, pay the rent, you name it. I can understand their point if we are talking about a huge hyped up project off kickstarter where the money was pledged to the game but this is not the case here. Patreon is supporting the creators alongside the content.

I won't speak for others, but when I give money to patreons, I give it because the games (or anything else) interest me and I want to support the creators, not because I'm forced to. Life and shits happen, so I won't complain about how the money is used. Worst case, if I really found the creators "deceived" me, I'll just take it as being bad at evaluating them and stop paying (not the case here, just saying the what ifs).

Thank you, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong but after so many words I wasn't sure if I was a scammer or not, thank you for this message which has helped me.

LivingDolls

Yes, 2 or 3 hours of being told that I'm a scammer, that I'm doing this for money and that I don't care enough about the efforts of my community to support me as a greedy scammer.

LivingDolls

It be one thing if you said every dime went to development, but as I recall you haven't. I always assumed the donation went to whatever was needed anyway. You're good. Don't worry about that person.

BlazingSandwich

Sounds to me like the person just wanted to get you under your skin. Do what you want with the money you received from patron. It's yours not ours anymore.

Sourapplesauce

You are totally fine, you can use the money for the things you want. After all, you still provide updates, fixes, content anf improvement. What you use the money for is your own decision. Even if you use part of it for hobbies and your life, it's fine, after all, you are a human being and you make your money developing games.
