Queen size…

Demeter is not only the deity for harvest. She is also a goddess for health, fertility, childbirth and marriage. Basically - she is Hera, just without all the drama. Most of said drama is tied up to the fact that Hera can’t really handle being queen.

Hera is many things, but she is not overly bright. In fact Hera is close to be an idiot. But when the weight of the crown is off her head, she becomes way less bitchy and far more like Tara - and overall sweetie pie ♥️

In RSAHNP the reason for Hera’s bitchy behavior as a queen of the gods, is mainly derived from her inability to be a proper queen. Zeus - her husband and king doesn’t treat her well, and then she reacts on people she deems less than herself. Punishing left and right. Her role as Queen of the gods gives her that right.

Zeus never loved Hera. He only took her as his queen because she looked so much like his first wife Metis. Zeus probably also banked on the fact that Hera was a little dumb, so he could fool around no problem. But… even a person with Hera’s limited capacity would catch on to Zeus schemes.

Fortunately Ron dethrones Zeus and takes his place.

Now Demeter she is both ripe and prime for the role of Queen. She is both fair, just and kind. She can be strict when the situation calls for it, and she is a no nonsense kind of goddess, so there is no fooling around with her. But overall she is sweet and warm and embraces change better than Hera ever did as queen.

Now Hera becomes a far better goddess when she is no longer the queen. Her relationship with Demeter also improves.

As for Demeter’s pregnancies. Well… Demeter is a little special. When a woman gets pregnant it is because she carries a fetus in her womb in a period until birth. With Demeter it is very different. She can basically get pregnant even when pregnant. The new fetus just grows next to the other one inside of her and takes it’s own time.

I know, I am weird, but… so were the damn ancient Greeks who came up with a lot of this stuff. 🤭

As for Demeter’s relationship with Persephone: It was never a close bond. Well, perhaps when Percy was young they were tight, but when Persephone grew up, she became an independent woman, and found love with Hades and moved to the underworld. Demeter didn’t like that and got so sad the world nearly ended.

Zeus made sure that Persephone would return home to mom every spring, and that made Demeter happy. Come autumn, Persephone would return to her family in Hades.

Persephone was not pleased with her mothers meddling in her life. Persephone was kinda like Hera in her personality. Only… smarter. Being the Queen of the Underworld gave her a taste for power and she loved it.

So when Ron picks Demeter as his Queen - Remember, he never really picked Hera - Persephone was a little annoyed - okay… very annoyed. But she was also… surprised and impressed.

Persephone had never really seen her mother, the ever kind, ever sweet Demeter as a goddess interested in the mantel of Queen. So she was surprised when Ron’s choice fell on Demeter as the Queen of the Gods. She might even have found a new respect for her mother. Finally seeing some ambition and calculation in her, that she herself have in spades.

Bringing more credit to the age old saying: Watch out for the quite type. They don’t say much, but when they do, what they say is remembered.
