EXCLUSIVE FULL REACTION - 2 HOURS

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly ALBUM REACTION!!

Comments

FINALLY people who appreciate U as much as I do!! Love to see it!

sierra blackman

I’m late. But I loved this reaction so much. I HATE that you googled Lucy bcuz yall are too smart for that haha, I knew you’d get it at the end of the song. Please keep doing your thing!

Khalif Moore

i literally be yelling through my phone like “YALL DIDNT CATCH THAT?” 😭 yall might have to tap into Kendrick breakdowns for his albums lol

D A I J

Lucy is Lucifer

D A I J

Kdot is a different beast fr he’s him 🔥 nobody COMPARES!!!!!!! To the king of rap the GREATEST Rapper of all time besides Tupac

Jashara Mitchell

fr they really do!

Nina Mercep

https://youtu.be/4wZytWFm7x0?si=WRyqcEQXR4f83ssi This is the music video to U and For Sale.

Mizzheaven83

Y'all have to do section 80

Lkay

Yes! You have to check out the live performance of "i" on SNL. It's epic!

Tamara Pearson

The third verse on "Hood Politics" is one of my favorites on the album. Yes, he's referring to Control but it's also a call back to a line on Jay Z's song "Imaginary Players" where Jay says the same thing. Then if you take it further, Kendrick's verse on "Like That" being the catalyst to one of the biggest rap beefs ever lol.

JM

Great reaction, y’all. This is my favorite album of all time and I can still listen to it front to back and enjoy the shit out of. Truly timeless.

Seth

Can't wait for Damn. Also please react to Kendrick - Cartoons and Cereal and Pusha T - Nosetalgia ft. Kendrick :)

Kate

Lici is Lucifer (the devil)

Imani Ali

Faaaaaaaactssssss!!!!!

Ro Renea

This was such a good reaction, I’ve done a deeper dive into Kendrick’s music due to the beef and.. WOW. I listened to TPAB back in 2016 after it dropped and didn’t appreciate it too much outside of “Alright” and “King Kunta.” Now “U” is one of my favorite tracks of all time. Kendrick is so GOATed. His pen is crazy.

Ron

So this album was sort of a tribute to Pac on top of being a look into Kendrick’s mind at this point in time. The end of Mortal Man is an unaired interview Pac did before he passed and Pac’s estate allowed Kendrick the ability to use it in his song and to stand in as the interviewer, which was a lifelong goal of Kendrick’s. …which is why Taylor Made Freestyle turned Kendrick into a supervillain. PS: Lucy is a double. Lucifer and Lucian Grange, President of UMG.

Marie B

Great reaction, need that DAMN next fellas!

D Jones

this reaction was so amazing. I got into Kendrick's music bc of beef (I always knew who he was though) and this albummmmmmmm! Omg it was so captivating. i listened to it so many times and its still so beautiful. i cant wait until you guys listen to the other two just so you can see the evolution of kendrick as an artitst. He is truly the real definition of the world. For “How Much A Dollar Cost” it reminds me of when Jesus says in one of the four gospels “when I was hungry did you feed me? When I was cold did you cloth me? Etccc” that’s what I think he was alluding too as well. He has a MTV interview about this album and he goes into detail about some of the songs.

SiSi

Lucy is short for Lucifer

Tyionna Williams

You guys have to do the deluxe for Good Kidd for the love of god‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Andrew

The title was originally Tu Pimp a Caterpillar, words that spell Tupac. Lucy=Lucian=Lucifer=Lucy [name of the oldest human fossils found, symbolic of biblical Eve (temptation)]

Alanna

Also Kendrick knew about the ghostwriters before Meek exposed him. That’s apart of the reason the beef started. Dot found out and knew Drake was a fraud.

Lovely Daye

You guys should listen to the Dissect Podcast to get a deep dive into the album. He does an amazing job of explaining all the references.

Lovely Daye

Lucy reference means In Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly, Lucy is a character that represents Lucifer, the devil, and tempts Lamar to reject his faith in God.

Wiki Amba

Amazing reaction guys!!!

Lovely Daye

Every time I hear If These Walls Could Talk that intro reminds me of the breakdown part of Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson also watch MoonWalker. I’d love to see ya’ll react to that! 😍🥹😌

Wiki Amba

Fire album Kendrick is INCREDIBLE and lyrically ahead of his time! Definitely a voice of the people! I can’t wait to see his Super Bowl performance ❤️🙏🏾! Do Anti By Rihanna next!!!

Wiki Amba

Y’all conversation around How Much A Dollar Cost is why music with a message is so important!!! Don’t get me wrong…we need the fun, turn up stuff too, but we’re missing so much of the message in hip hop today. It’s what the genre is truly about. It was beautiful to see you both work through the meaning and what Kendrick was trying to say. It was spot on.

AB

So grateful for this reaction.

Felisha DeForge

Let’s roll

Justcallmeclark

You'll definitely love DAMN! - BTW, was the audio a bit off? was it me?

Jojojoana

I’m finally done and I must say this is one of you guys best reactions to date. I love that y’all were so locked in and letting the music and lyrics come to you. It showed that although you two weren’t fans of Kendrick at first, you have a new found respect for him as not just a rapper, but as a ARTIST because to me that is what he is. He has transcended being just a rapper. But an artist. I enjoyed this so much. I can’t wait to see you guys react to the visuals and then go on to his next albums DAMN and then Mr Morale (the concert is going to blow yall away). Hope we don’t have to wait as long. Tanea Lighty

This era has the most Kendrick Lamar videos (“u” does have a video) ... I hope yall react to them and his Late Night Show/ Grammy performances for this albums as well.

SimplicitySims

(forgot to put in my last post) he did and interview on MTV where he breaks down some of the songs and talks about his depression it’s really good y’all should check it out when you have time.

Tae Owens

one thing kendrick albums gonna do is make you think. my favorite song is how much a dollar cost because it makes you realize how God shows up in mysterious ways to show us who we really are by how we judge others. not wanting to give up that one dollar could cost you your humility or much more. if you like poetry you could really study each song. also I think y’all would love DAMN and hope you get into it soon every song tells a story just like this album.

Tae Owens

I love seeing yall react to Kendricks discography I hope you give the other members of TDE a chance too. You'll love schoolboy q

Missbarribaby

This was sooooooo good!!!!!!

Niye wade

The breakdowns and discussions you guys had between songs was ✨👌🏾 — And actually taking in the themes. I cracked up when y’all realized who Lucy was. 😂 The “DAMN.” Album has more ‘commercial’ beats, but the content is still top tier. I can’t wait until y’all hear “FEAR”. 🤯

MAX

Lucy = Lucian Grange / Which is why the lawsuit Drake has is so funny. He was bragging about the $400m dollar contract and how him and Lucian were Kobe and Shaq. Kendrick has been rapping about him, the industry taking advantage of black artist since the begging and now Drake can’t get out of his contract, while Kendrick is out of his, his own boss and only goes to UMG for distribution.

Tanea Lighty

“U” is how I knew Drake didn’t stand a chance. Kendrick has the best diss track of all time to himself. You can’t mess with someone who can write something like that about themselves. They said the room was dark. He was on the floor actually crying and drinking. Insane.

Tanea Lighty

“King Kunta” The ghostwriter line. He said it like two months before Meek mill exposed it on Twitter. Rumor has it Kendrick wrote Drake’s verse on “Poetic Justice”

Tanea Lighty

One thing that I love about Kendrick albums is how he references himself in his songs. “These Walls” is about Kendrick hooking up with a woman but he’s only doing it for bad intentions. The woman he was sleeping with was the girlfriend of the guy who killed his friend in “Sing About Me”. He’s bragging in the first two verses about how her insides/walls are so good but last verse he exposes his ill intentions to the dude currently in jail. Also, the poem he keeps repeating, as the album goes on, he ads another sentence. He isn’t talking directly to someone but to himself. He is the person abusing his power, for example, the relationship in “These Walls”. He’s making love to this woman (power) but only for get back at his enemy.

Tanea Lighty

It’s crazy to me that ppl say this has no replay value…I listen to this shit on my way to work, to the grocery store and cleaning up.. each song sounds unique and can stand alone, I love it!! 🤎

SimplicitySims

I’ve only made it to Hood Politics so far in the reaction but I’m impressed with how much yall caught during the first listen. I’ve listened to this album for 10 years now and still catching stuff lol

SimplicitySims

This is my first time actually listening to the whole album so I appreciate you guys. This album was really deep and inspiring.

Meka Tika

Just finished and wow BEAUTIFUL reaction! Y’all heard it at the time you were supposed to. That’s the beautiful thing about music, it lasts forever. Kendrick is a very special brother and so are yall.

AB

When yall cover section 80 it may not have the song "Spiteful Chant" on it, please 🙏 please 🙏 please 🙏 go to YouTube and listen to it! I guarantee that yall will love it especially since yall love his jazz instruments.

Mizzheaven83

This album was fire all the way through. Yall missed the Sherane reference on For Sale

Mizzheaven83

Man I been waiting for this. This like Christmas came. I’ll be back with links for videos/live performances I think y’all should do to get an insight of what you’ll see at the Super Bowl.

Tanea Lighty

He didn’t win the Pulitzer for this album. He won it for DAMN.

Tanea Lighty

fun fact, whitney is singing on the background on king kunta

Shanieh Howard

Uh I’m only on the 1st song so far but Trey you ate that Wesley’s Theory breakdown! Yes, class is session!

AB

There’s a reason he won a Pulitzer Prize for this album

Elizabeth Gardner

I can’t wait until you guys watch his live performances🔥❤️.

RM

Fun fact the album was originally named To Pimp A Caterpillar aka “ 2pac” but Kendrick changed it to Butterfly

Kaejanae

Jojojoana
