Advice For Young Animators

Just some thoughts.

Advice For Young Animators

Comments

I had found the biggest issue is not so much the how, but more what the person's passions are. From my perspective I see it coming from a mixture of the systems they are brought up in and awe when they see someone else show mastery. So they see the result but not the time and effort to get there, thus it resulting from your passion and love for your craft. Your advice is quite sound, just do! Thanks Harry, it's a good video. 👍

Thanks Forrest! It's a consideration...

Great insight Harry, you should start a podcast I would definitely listen to it

Thank you, Trevor!

Harry Partridge

An interesting ramble even for us non-animators!

Trevor Bond

Thank you for sticking with me for so long man. I definitely am passionate but your support is the other big part of what fuels me to keep making things. I couldn't do this without you guys.

Harry Partridge

You were the reason I got into animation, Harry, I probably said that already xD But it's always a good time to thank you for all that you do, for being so passionate about creating good quality entertainment, and for inspiring so many people, me included. Thank you! :)

Karkos

I'm glad you think they're still worthwhile. I haven't seen them in soo long, I kind of recall them being unwatchable.

Also, watch Happy Harry's Hu Ha 2 How To's. That isn't just lip service: literally any time somebody asks me how to get started in animation I recommend this tutorial series by Harry. I used to watch it religiously when I first started making my own cartoons and It's really helped me figure some things out. It's a nice blend of teaching you basic flash tools, animation principles and bits and pieces of theory in other places to help you make stuff.

Thomas van Kampen

You're too kind, thank you Jimothy! I too wish there was more behind the scenes and discussion on this sort of thing. Going to work as hard as I can this month to make good on all the new support and deliver something fun before the end of March :)

Harry Partridge

This video was great. I always enjoy hearing passionate artists discuss their craft in more detail. it's something that I wish would happen more often in the creative world. I'm really happy to see more from you Harry. I hope you hit it big in the future. You're a funny guy and a hard worker, you deserve to have big things come your way.

No worries! Thanks to you ^^

Joel Mayer

Good questions Joel. I hope I can get to them soon. Thanks man :)

Harry Partridge

Really good video! I have two questions that might or might not be interesting to answer: 1. Apart from practice, do you have any thoughts or tips on how to get FAST at drawing specifically for animation and how do you think drawing motion differs from let's say drawing for an illustration. And 2. What kind of shortcuts or rather compromises do you personally can live with vs. what's a no-go when producing a short. I.e. tweening vs. no tweening or copy pasting body parts or whatever comes to mind :) Thanks again!

Joel Mayer

I realised I was old the day I saw there was a Lego Lord of the Rings video game.

Harry Partridge

Wait, when did you stop being a young animator? Are we old now?
