Doomscroll: Mike Israetel

Welcome Doomscroll. My guest is Dr. Mike Israetel, a PhD in Sport Physiology and a co-founder of Renaissance Periodization.

RP is among the largest fitness channels on the internet. In 2023, Dr. Mike launched his own politics and philosophy channel to explore trolley problems, AI, the future of humanity, religion, the military and a variety of other topics we might place under the broad umbrella of “guy content”. On this episode we discuss:

In the last few years, we’ve seen a myriad of mainstream media think-pieces that seek to connect weight-lifting and right-wing politics. Vice says, “Gym Bros More Likely to be Right-Wing Assholes, Science Confirms” and The Guardian argues that “Getting Fit is Great – But it Could Turn you into a Rightwing Jerk”. Clearly, these people are fucking huge losers.

As usual, progressives repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot by claiming that all the most popular male hobbies, such as fitness and video games, are “political extremism”. The CIA doesn’t even need to infiltrate the American left. Agents can just stand on the sidelines and take notes from how we already undermine ourselves.

Longtime viewers will know that a Xenofeminist hormonal politics of self-ownership and bodily autonomy is the only scalable position for the mounting crises of the 21st century. I ask Dr. Mike whether exogenous interventions upon our “nature” (HRT, TRT, and others), might also indicate that we should intervene upon the outcomes in society?

On Doomscroll, we have an unwavering commitment to free speech. Often, I have a different view than that of my guests. When we are given the full spectrum of available politics, my strong wager is that Social Democracy (or further) does ultimately win. On this week’s private episode, I challenge Dr. Mike in his view on tariffs and we discuss his philosophical background:

The fact Dr Mike thinks saturated fats are worse for health than PUFA fats is an indication he hasn't gone very deep in the lit. If this were true (and I doubt it is), it would generate a huge evolutionary paradox, and evolutionary principles are as central biology as math is to physics.

Paul Meyer

Step 1: Assume everyone can freely move where they want, to justify privatization of essential services. Step 2: Assume some people are simply too mentally ill, drug addicted, or unintelligent to move where they want, thereby undermining the rationale for step 1. Step 3: Liberal utopia🙌
