For those curious, here's a bit of backstory about the name of the neutral colonies (whether the tale is true or not is debatable):

In the Ainu language, Mars is called "moshirekarikuru" (or in other regions "moshirikariketa/chiapukashite nochu"), and there's a fascinating story behind the name. According to their tales, Moshirekarikuru was originally a distinguished deity who lived in the Nochiukantomoshiri (the world of shining stars, aka the cosmos). However, after causing some trouble, he was sent down to Earth. Since then, he wandered from one end of the world to the other. His clothes became tattered and his appearance changed so much that humans began calling him "mankasakkuru" (ugly diety). During his wanderings, he encountered Pakorokamui, the smallpox diety feared by the people as the god of epidemics.

The Mars diety (now known as mankasakkuru) shared in the food and sake that Pakorokamu had plundered from human dwellings. As he feasted, his strength gradually returned, and thus were his ancient powers revived. Eventually he was able to ascend back to the heavens and return to being the Mars deity. However, because of all the sake he had consumed, he now shines more redly than before.

Since Pakorokamu emerged in stories from the Edo period onward in Ainu ethnic history, it leads some to wonder whether something happened to Mars from the Edo to Taisho periods that may have made Mars temporarily disappear and then reappear with a more intense red color.
