Learning Lessons

Howdy do

I'm uploading the newly edited Learning Lessons series here and on my Ream, but I set the chapters here on Patreon to only the higher tiers by mistake. These chapters will be available to all members. Sorry about that! You can go back and read the posted chapters if you're in the KT Fans group, and read the new chapters as they come out M-W-F.

Just curious though: Have you already read the Learning Lessons series (formerly called Losing His Wife, with Pete and Jess Mapplethorpe)?

Oh - too true, I couldn’t agree more! And apologies for the long response, but your question reeeeally got me thinking (obviously lol) … He’s just a boy toy. But the kid has to grow up sometime, and I could see Tyler maturing, realizing what he had with Jess and coming back for her. And his child. I could imagine him having to go away and do something semi-legal and anonymous to get by - like harvesting pot plants. He would learn to survive in the wilderness for a bit, manual labor (more muscle!), get some street smarts dealing with shady people. With his charisma he makes some connections and works his way up quickly. Finally he has some real money backing him and his employers send him to open a sleek, sexy new dispensary in Jess’s state where it’s newly legal. In a big city not too far from Jess, as a matter of fact. He’s the charismatic cool tattoo guy, so people are drawn to his business, especially ladies… Now Tyler can display his value - he has street smarts, money, a semi-respectable reputation as business owner while maintaining his bad boy allure, and he has the backing of who knows what kind of shadowy and powerful interstate connections. With his business backers, he’ll feel safe to come back and show his face again. It’s an all-cash business, so that could open all kinds of possibilities too. Jess has been staying home taking care of the kids. She even started a YT yoga channel after having Tyler’s baby that has been slowly but steadily growing. She is now more fit and beautiful than ever, and the comments on her videos prove it. Comments that make Pete crazy... And having those cameras around for her yoga videos could present all kinds of naughty possibilities too… But Jess is in a rut staying at home all the time, and newly rich bad boy Tyler’s return could not be timed more perfectly. First Tyler has to win back Jess. And then he’ll want to take his child. And after that who knows when he will stop or be satisfied? From what I recall it seems to me that Tyler genuinely liked Jess’s family - even her father - and they all liked him. Just no room for Pete, but he has his trains… Or perhaps - if you want a Happy Pete ending - with all that cash around Tyler crosses those same shadowy people who are behind his business and has to leave once again? I keep thinking of a scene - Jess and Pete start to finally rekindle their physical intimacy after the baby. Jess’s body is toned, but after the baby, she stayed curvy in all the right places. Pete seeing those changes in her body. Changes brought about by Tyler. Then he sees another change. Pete finally sees Jess’s “Live Free” tattoo. A permanent reminder that deep inside - ahem - his wife will always belong to Tyler. Thinking about Pete seeing this reminder of Tyler for the first time and the feelings it would arouse… Pete thinking he can get past it, that he can forgive Jess of anything as long as she’ll stay, but little does he know that Tyler is going to reclaim his place…

I love it! But, but, but... Tyler wasn't a provider. He was just a big fun kid. Jess, well she kind of got all out of that relationship anyone could have (and then some!). What was she going to do in the future with a bum like that? Pete showed him for what he was and won his loving wife back! Here's a great question (and I'd love for anyone to shoot an answer my way!) Where would you see Jess and Tyler in five years if they'd stayed a couple? Let me know what you think, and I'll do the same!

KT Morrison

I just wanted to say I really appreciate where you were coming from at the time writing Jess’s character because she is probably my all time favorite! So compelling and provocative. Jess has such powerful needs that only Tyler can satisfy that she will risk everything for him, and I find her loss of control incredibly sexy. No matter how sweet her li’l hubby Pete may be, it’s apparent to everyone that she settled. She and Tyler are the ones who are meant to be together. Her actions are selfish, but her and Tyler’s need for each is like the pull of gravity. No man can change its course, especially not her well-meaning li’l hubby, trying to stand between an unstoppable force and an immovable object. I would love a sequel someday!

Haha - well from the comments I see I’m very much in the minority here, but I loved Learning Lessons, and I am Team Jess & Tyler. The idea that - in spite of everything standing in their way - Jess and Tyler have such a powerful animal attraction to each other that they will risk everything to be together is so sexy. Although they may not be “likable” characters, they are so compelling, I couldn’t wait to see what they would do next. Anyone who hasn’t read it yet - buckle up and enjoy the ride!

I just finished the last flight of the day. And take a look at my phone, and the realize why was my phone going bonkers when I am on finals. Should have turned off the notifications for Patreon but cannot afford to miss out on KT's stories.

Abhinav Rai

Precisely the reason I wrote that was because you didn't need to justify yourself or your character...

Bill F Protagoras

And I also realize now that I was saying how you couldn't blame the writer and I should have said "one" can't blame the writer... Also you weren't on my blog back when that book came out and didn't see how I got a lot of people irritated with me for Jess being so 'poisonous' so when I worded my post that way I was recollecting the bad emails I got, but you're not privy to that. And another thing: I should be more aware of my opening statements as they're the most important and I guess mine had a confrontational tone if you looked at it from a few different angles.

KT Morrison

And re masterpieces and shoddiness: What I meant was I'm so lucky to have readers like the ones here because it allows me to write what I consider literature, but then in true Protestant fashion I can't call my work literature without the necessary self-deprecating counterpoint of tagging my work as shoddy. I said that, not anyone else. What I was saying in that post was actually a compliment to patrons, because I do value you and everyone else here more than you could know. I have to write other stuff for publishers but I'm never connected to that work. But I'm connected to these books I write as KT.

KT Morrison

Sorry about that! Tone is tricky in written words. My passage there was in complete good nature and not intended to rile anyone at all. In fact I was enjoying the question and the discussion and I liked my answer. But, I do see now, if you were to read malice in it, it can be seen. So I apologize for that and didn't mean in any way to have it received the way it was! If you re-read it, picturing me looking up at a slight angle and trying to consider how to answer the question, probably talking with my hands, you may have a better picture of how the words were spoken/written. Or how about this: perhaps a smoky pub and everyone has had a pint already and we're into the second round, and I'm trying to pontificate but am mostly making up nonsense on the spot and everyone's having a laugh.

KT Morrison

Good point, Andrew. I wanted the worst possible ending for Tyler. He is scum. I would have been fine with a head-on collision. I was hoping for a BTB ending, too. Jess was horrible to Pete! When she was afraid to defend Pete when Tyler punched him was disgusting. She was afraid of defending her husband because she didn't want to piss Tyler off. Sickening!

Bill H.

Clearly I have upset you. I think all writing is literature and certainly think your work is of the best.. It has never been my intention to upset you nor do I wish to adversely affect you or your excellent work. If you are referring to a post where I used the word shoddy three times, that was directed at the Devlins of this world . I wrote what I wrote above about Jess, because I didn't think it reflected your personal opinion!

Bill F Protagoras

@Bill-F I don't expect readers to agree or disagree. I know some will, some won't. I like writing *hard* characters that are neutral or gray, and made up of their own histories and their own philosophies, and who are capable of good and equal evil. Like, you can't blame the writer for the character, it's the character's own fault! If that's the way Jess felt, that's it, man, end of story. When I write romance novels I definitely think of how the character will be received. KT books are as close to "literature" as I'll ever write—so I thank you all for reading my true 'masterpieces' as shoddy as they may be, ha ha.

KT Morrison

My wife tried to defend Jess, too, KT. She said, "When Pete wants to be hurt and humiliated, he can't complain when he gets hurt and humiliated!" She changed her opinion shortly after, though.

Bill H.

We Bills must stick together...

Bill F Protagoras

Pete got it right when he called Jess a "poisonous c**t". I wish he hadn't apologized for it, though. She deserved it.

Bill H.

When you wrote the part Mike cites... "The most heartbreaking part was that she shared with Tyler that if she had not gotten pregnant.. she would have dumped Pete!" I don't think you expected your readers to think... " Fuck yeah, what girl wouldn't? It's his own fault for having such a tiny peeny. The woman musta been a saint!" Or did you?

Bill F Protagoras

I’m just anxiously waiting for the next chapter after that shocking ending in the last one! Hopefully tonight or tomorrow🙏

Andrew Mellein

Thank goodness!

Bill F Protagoras

Devil in the Waters is not over, yet.

HTO

That is okay KT..I love most of all how you bring these characters to life flaws and all...Losing your wife and Cherry Blossom are my absolute favorites from the Morrison universe...these should be made into movies but Hollywood would ruin it!

Mike Monroe

KT should write another Losing his Wife novel to complete the semi trilogy of Learning Lessons and Cherry Blossoms! Maybe not right now but somewhere down the line. I like the idea of a revenge cheating wife thriller somewhat like Devil in the Waters. With the bull protagonist ( someone from a marginalized group) wanting revenge against a prominent politician (congressman) by seducing the wife (intense affair) and trying to destroy the politician’s family and career! It’s an idea I have in my head but I’m too lazy to write it down🤣🤣

Andrew Mellein

The fact that Tyler was such a loathsome bottom feeding turd seemed infectious and Jess made herself a pariah. As you say that shameful declaration was the vilest of Jess's betrayals. What base festering ingratitude provoked that!

Bill F Protagoras

Agree..Tyler was the worst...The most heartbreaking part was that she shared with Tyler that if she had not gotten pregnant..she would have dumped Pete! Kimmy is evil ..but Jess was on another level ...Another circle of hell she belonged in.

Mike Monroe

He worked his ass for her the kids and the house. And then she cheats behind his back and kicks him out of his own house! As for Tyler all this talk about KT killing off Devlin but I think Tyler deserved a head on collusion with a broken neck. As it comes to light that he was fuckin other men’s wives besides Jess! He was piece of crap!

Andrew Mellein

Yes! I even liked that the man she hooked up with Rocco was opposite of a typical stud bull character. As he was big broad and abusive. Nia realized she done fucked up and that Geoff was the love of her life!

Andrew Mellein

I agree. The thing I loved most about Cherry blossoms was even though Nia was a shit, she actually loved Geoff. Don't see that from too many wives in these kinds of books. She even told him she didn't want to humiliate him because she had no reason to. And the end was perfect! Cherry Blossoms 2 KT!!

Chris K

I think Jess for a while was KT's most unlikable heroine then Kimmy Waters came along! I agree I want to see more children in KT's future books! Learning Lessons is O.K as introduction into the KT verse. But I like Cherry Blossoms and Happy Endings better!

Andrew Mellein

Is the ending going to be rewritten to have her raising that kid all alone? Lol.

Chris K

Once was good enough for me even though I own the book! I felt bad for Pete the whole book. (didnt care that he had a miniscule penis) And then his wife moves her jobless lover into the house with the kids! And then she up and kicks him out of his own house to be with her lover. The ending was a masterpiece though. Now that I think about it I liked Cherry Blossoms and Happy Ending better even though this was the first book of yours I read.

Andrew Mellein

It is my 2nd favorite behind Cherry Blossom... Because of these 2 stories you become to me the Goat of this type of artistry. Jess was brutal to Pete...He was the Goat of husbands . He truly loved her...However I think he was her 2nd choice and by the Easter Egg chapter ...he really was ..She settled for him because that jerk left her!

Mike Monroe

I've already read it twice, I started reading the first part again here, and it all came flooding back and I just stopped, Jess behaved atrociously to Pete but what was really the final straw by the end, was she seemed unswayed by her kids BECAUSE PETE LOOKED AFTER THEM SO WELL. What was paradoxical was my reaction after she came back without some other guy's tail between her legs. She had ruined her family and professional life wilfully, and though she thoroughly deserved the general opprobrium and misery she had reaped, according to Jehovah's hard and fast tenets. Fortunately for her, she was at the mercy of Pete and her sons, and not some bad tempered sky patriarch! I'm gonna wait before I read it again, I love it and there is a terrible clarity to the prose, and it got a raw deal, because the next novel I read was Cherry Blossoms. It's still a fucking wonderful read! PS Of all the good writer's in this # the kids in your books stand out as the most real and most relevant.

Bill F Protagoras

Aww! (Though I do understand) I was just saying to another hotwife the other day how I can't believe I ever defended Jess's thoughts and actions back in the day. I was as clouded as she was! I think I got into her character too much.

KT Morrison

I’ve read it and will not read it to avoid further heart ache. lol
