DITW 12-20: Of Sorrow Unfeign'd

The submission to her desires had delivered her pleasure, but the betrayal did, too. The betrayal and the cruelty. As Devlin had told her over drinks at the Royal York: Josh lures his own torment. The meek summons the strong. She’d thought it was bull shit, but there was something about Josh that begged for it. Something in him that wanted the worst; that demanded it. Somehow he’d summoned his own devils, brought out the worst in others. Josh defined himself through the perception of the dominant. Josh found power in resentment; he fed off it.

The arousal that wickedness brought her was only because she loved Josh. That was her and Josh’s intertwined life now. Wasn’t it? Definitely. It was sacred.

Josh’s trembling eyes roamed the scene. His wife post-orgasm, his bully’s massive cock back inside her again; and his wife was getting off on it, writhing with Devlin’s gentle fucking, readjusting her sensitive and quivering interior to his demanding size. That unreadable expression twitched and turned down, assuming something more surly, his delightful brain at work.

He said, “It’s only urine.”

She moved her gaze from Josh up to Devlin, looming between her thighs, Devlin regarding Josh. Devlin looked at her, pausing his fucking, and their eyes met. Both of them burst into breathy chuckles. She clamped a hand over her mouth to stifle the laughing, embarrassed, seeing herself as too aligned with Devlin, not wanting to be Josh’s bully, but to be his divine benefactor of highly tuned and delightful woe, his High Priestess of Sexual Anguish. But definitely not his bully. Not his Devlin. And not Amy.

Josh’s frown deepened, and his cheeks blushed. His mouth trembled. She whispered to Devlin, “Stop, stop, stop,” and put up her palms to indicate for him to halt.

Josh said, “I mean, you just, like her bladder gave out, ‘cause...”

She slipped away from Devlin and off the bed, suddenly feeling far too naked, her hand covering between her thighs, where Devlin had just been. Even the pressure of her own fingers to where Devlin stretched her brought sexual static and electric aftershocks. The seismic orgasm Devlin delivered hadn’t abandoned her yet. Josh watched her coming, not liking it, not wanting her comfort right now. She went to one knee before him. She asked him what he needed.

“Nothing. I’m fine.”

She took his hand and held it. “I didn’t mean to laugh.”

Josh winced in pain, hating her words.

“It was the perfect thing for you to say. That’s why I thought it was funny. That was the Josh I know.”

Josh’s eyes flitted, his mouth working out what to say, his brow a tense line. “I’m not trying to be funny.”

She asked him again. “What do you need right now?”

“Nothing, Kimmy,” he said, vexed. “Just keep going.”

She thumbed his knuckles, chewing her cheek. It was the perfect thing for Josh to say; it had betrayed so much about how his mind worked. He’d just watched his bully fuck his wife so good she’d been turned to useless goo, coming so hard she’d squirted. And Josh had said the expected retort, something that amounted to an Oh, yeah? or a So what, big deal. While it was funny, she didn’t like that role for him. He deserved a better position.

She let his hand go and rubbed both his forearms. “Why don’t you take that jacket off.”

His lip curled, saying, “Why?”

“Because I want you to.”

Behind her, Devlin said, “Do what she says, Josh.”

She didn’t look at Devlin, but answered, “I don’t need your help.” Then to Josh: “Come on. If the sin is the penitence, it’s because you want the sin. It’s why I’m doing it.”

Josh said nothing, but she could hear his answer in her own head: You don’t have to like it so much.

She answered as if he’d stated it out loud. “I liked it because you were watching, Josh. That’s why you’re here. . . . Take off your jacket, please.”

Josh sat forward and pulled the jacket off. She wanted to run her hands up his leg and test his hardness, but the effect of seeing his bully pleasure his wife like no one else could had put a bad spin on Josh’s experience. She didn’t want to push him too far, didn’t want to touch his dick and have him push her hand away. Or worse, have it go off in his pants and ruin the progress. The act with Devlin today was for Josh; was to grant her atonement. Josh wasn’t there yet, but he could be pushed or pulled to that place if she worked with him.

“Tell me what you want, Josh. I’ll do it. I’ll do anything for you.”

Behind her again: “How about what I want.”

She looked over her shoulder to regard Devlin on his knees still, awaiting her return, his cock in his hand and working to maintain his hardness.

Josh said to Devlin, “What do you want?”

There was strength in Josh’s voice, the statement like a challenge. He sounded unafraid again. The secret was to keep Josh in contrast with Devlin, remove herself from Devlin as much as she could and still keep Josh entertained.

Devlin flashed a smile, regarding Josh with sly approval. “Why stop at your jacket? Let’s get those pants off you.”

Kimmy looked back to Josh, and Josh watched Devlin over her shoulder with a cold stare. She asked him if he wanted that. He said, “I want you to be yourself. I want you to show me what you are.”

“What do you mean what I am?”

Josh steadied his eyes on hers and spoke clearly. “I want you to show me how wicked you are,” he said, slowly, taking his time with each word.

“Josh likes a bad girl,” Devlin said.

Josh kept his eyes on hers, saying, “I guess I do.”

Devlin said, “If you like a wicked woman, Josh, you hit the fucking jackpot. Kimmy Chang is the devil.”

She scoffed and rolled her eyes, retreating from Josh, but he held her wrist to stop her.

“Is this what it’s like with him? What I watched, was this how it was all the times you were with him?”

Her lips slimmed but she didn’t shy away. “Yeah,” she said. “Pretty much.” Then she grooved from the sickly look on Josh’s face, her husband hating that answer but loving it just the same, probably coming in his pants from hearing it. “Why else would I do it?”

Josh nodded, grim, eyes blazing with a dark sexual fire she loved.

“Do you want to see more?”

Josh’s nod was almost unnoticeable (still struggling to hide the truth from her). But, yes, he did want to see more. “I told you what I want.”

Devlin said, “He wants to watch you misbehave.”

“You’re wicked,” Josh said. “Show me how wicked you are.”

But she didn’t like the assessment, the bullying demand and castigation. She furrowed her brow in a play on wounding, saying, “That’s all I am to you?”

Josh showed the slightest amount of amusement, but then it twisted into something more shocked, more disbelieving—the look of an apostate, his faith diminished at the sight of her weakness. He narrowed his eyes, shaking his head, lost in skepticism. “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard you say, and you’re not stupid.”

Josh saw through the theatric offense, and she did feel stupid for trying something so lame when he’d been treated to her worst. That must have seemed juvenile to him. She’d shown him stark betrayal; too much, too close, and he wouldn’t trust her again. That truth disheartened her for a moment. And, somehow, this time, she really was wounded. She said, “I’m everything to you. At least I hope I am. I want to be everything.”

Josh’s lips slimmed, and he studied her further, that momentary shaken faith dissipating, his eyes seeking truth in her words. She did her best to convince him with her eyes, wanting him to trust her, to put his most valuable vulnerabilities in her hands. She would tease him with them, make them huge until his cock exploded in his pants. Soon, those huge things would become small, and maybe they wouldn’t scare him so much.

“I want to be everything to you,” she said again. “I want to be the one who gives you everything you’ve dreamed of. And everything we both dreamed of.”

Devlin sighed, impatient.

The power of her temptation showed in Josh’s eyes. He wanted it to be true. And it was—it was her betrayal that had shaken his faith. She said, “Tell me what you want. Tell me what you want right now. Please, baby.”

Josh exhaled and closed his eyes, his head rocking back. The sun played on his troubled features. When he opened his eyes again, the sun filled them with color. He said, “Don’t hold back.”

“Don’t hold back? That’s what you want?” She cupped a hand to his cheek, delighted he didn’t pull away.

“Show me your worst. I want to see it.”

She said, “I will. I will, for you.”

So, she rose, for some reason still with a hand between her thighs and covering his closeup view of her swollen and punished sex, and turned to Devlin. “And what do you want?”

Devlin smiled and pulled her onto the bed, manhandling her and getting her to lay face down on the bed, legs spread on either side of his knees. “Stay down like that, stay flat on your stomach,” he said, and she obeyed him, turning her head to the left to look at Josh.

Josh watched as Devlin lowered his body over hers, his cock coming down on one butt cheek and then hoisted into position between her cheeks, dangling down to touch her sex. He grunted as he shoved his cock inside her again and she groaned and narrowed her eyes, loving his thick return. He fucked her shallow from this angle, bouncing above her, his hands on either side of her shoulders. The bed squeaked with their rocking and Josh watched, cheeks drawn, his expression aghast. Despite the extreme duress, she marveled at how good Josh looked. The suit fit him well, and even stripped down to the dress shirt, no tie, collar open, he looked handsome with the daylight behind him. The new haircut showed him less boyishly, more masculine, and her husband wore it well.

Devlin fucked her like that, slowly building up to a deeper penetration, and as he returned his stretch to her depths, she began to moan, narrowing her eyes, the vision of Josh warbling. “Oh, you’re so fucking big,” she whispered in a breathy voice. “You feel so good, mm, keep going, ah, not too deep yet.”

Devlin slowed, rolling his hips on the thrust, the angle changing, swirling, stretching her in incredible ways. Her mouth hung open, and her moans turned to high cries that whined with each of Devlin’s thrusts.

Josh’s fervor had returned in a fiery glory, his eyes widened, soaking in every iota of visual information while his bully fucked his wife. He leaned forward with his elbows on his knees. “Do you fuck him every day?”

Devlin was quicker than her, chuckling, saying, “I wish.”

“No, Josh,” she said. “It wasn’t like that.”

Josh’s brow lowered, and he leaned even closer, his eyes troubled despite the scorn his features showed. “Did you fuck him in Grand Cayman?”

Take your time, KT. I was hoping this would be a 20-book series, anyway. :-)

Pete

Amen!

Bill F Protagoras

At one point I did say to KT that Kimmy was acting like, or was, an addict and that requires too much, or a daunting amount of work to live with... And I'm pretty sure we will find out for certain if the term addict can be applied with equal severity to Josh soon... the man still shows signs of muted internal struggles! Now I think of it, I'm not sure if Kimmy herself is in a fit state to look after a child, maybe that is a further pragmatic reason for a liaison with Hyun.

Bill F Protagoras

Tease!

Bill F Protagoras

Requiem is the most devastating anti addiction film ever. I’ve thought of the movie often while reading DitW. It fits, I think, with Kimmy and Josh becoming increasingly addicted to their kink. If we see them both as addicts, their actions become more consistent and the incongruities between their thoughts and acts more readily reconcilable.

CSH

They probably don’t understand it either. Perhaps an indicator that all the fear about AI is exaggerated as we surrendered control a while back.

CSH

Indeed.

Bill F Protagoras

I, in fact, like Exorcist I just meant it and Ellen Burstyn's acting in it could not even be compared to Requiem in a colourful scouse fashion. The first time I saw The 'your mother sucks cocks in hell' Exorcist it was a double feature with Play Misty for Me!

Bill F Protagoras

I love Ellen Burstyn (and yes in Exorcist, which is in my list of top 10 movies of all time, say what you will) and just read on imdb this amazing account: "During Ellen Burstyn's impassioned monologue about how it feels to be old, cinematographer Matthew Libatique accidentally let the camera drift off-target. When director Darren Aronofsky called "cut" and confronted him about it, he realized the reason Libatique had let the camera drift was because he had been crying during the take and fogged up the camera's eyepiece. This was the take used in the final print."

KT Morrison

Haven't seen RfaD yet, but watched The Whale for the first time two nights ago. I have Requiem on Criterion and will add it to my list right away.

KT Morrison

So true. To their own detriment, I think.

KT Morrison

I still don't understand why Landlord was banned, but it is an article of faith that the way of the big A passeth all understanding.

Bill F Protagoras

Different media, but both are incredibly powerful and emotionally excoriating and desperate. If only Kimmy could've shared that chorizo with Jennifer Connelly at a high level client meeting of Stone Brokerage... so fucking baaaaaaaaaaad the entire film... human beings wilfully dismantled by irresistible chemical demands. That was humiliation! Ellen Burstyn consumatly was the part... The exorcist... I wouldn't wipe my arse with it! And all in the monochrome of real life! Selby just got better and better as he went on... His art and his life were inextricable! If anybody approaches the title of stand alone American author it's him! And he wrote the screenplay, and Aronofsky wow in whispered tone. Oooops, I forgot to use the word sordid about the book or the film an egregious oversight...

Bill F Protagoras

This stuff is probably not at that literary level but it’s been hiding away on Amazon for years. The author is no longer active. KT when you mentioned the Landlord series getting banned I thought of these works. And laughed a bit in disbelief. “Units of Measure” being possibly the best cuckold novella ever written. (Sorry KT, but you are undisputed master of the long form.) All free on Amazon. Re: Selby, I’ve only seen the film version of Requiem for a Dream. As we discussed films and books inevitably different but a stunning film.

CSH

Thanks, I can handle hardcore, context is what is important to me and sometimes feasibility. One of my favourite American writers was the late great Hubert Selby Jr Last Exit to Brooklyn (novel, 1964) The Room (novel, 1971) The Demon (novel, 1976) Requiem for a Dream (novel, 1978) Song of the Silent Snow (short stories, 1986)[20] The Willow Tree and Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy and they're just off the top of my head, as for porn since I started reading me dad's porn on the sly when I was thirteen and my personal tutor at Warwick who taught me America prosody lent me his collection of Alexander Trocchi, William Burroughs was no light weight... don't mistake me because I despise genre bashing... and treat good writing as though it's literature, because it is! Oh, and I used to have an unhealthily large collection of hardcore Spanish comix and I still have classic Crumb and co... I got used to using euphemism on Amazon, and it amuses me!

Bill F Protagoras

It’s still on Amazon last I checked. It’s part of a collection by Audrey Bocklin called Cuckold Erotica. She has better stories than those, though. Perhaps “Units of Measure” also known as “The Website” or “Sundays with Cokie” were favorites. Warning though, it’s all only for the hardcore.

CSH

I have a metaphysical tale relating to "From Hell," that changed my perception of reality. Can't share it, but, wow.

KT Morrison

astute and prescient!

KT Morrison

What is Megan's Date? Was it a book on Amazon?

KT Morrison

Do you remember who wrote Megan's Date? The title sounds vaguely familiar but I'm curious to read it and my search is full of hindrances. Just a whim to savour life's plenty. Ta!

Bill F Protagoras

KT's writing is withholding but at times appallingly explicitly teasing at the threads of her main characters even Devlin gets a little tug every now and again and he's lurking... I mean, in the image what's he gonna do to that poor/lucky plant? Everything is going much as I expected with Josh... but Kimmy is walking, now we're granted glimpses, her own private tight rope, and Jimmy Cliff reminds me... You can't do wrong and get right no matter how hard you may try it. Everything that's done in darkness must come out in light, you can't do wrong and get right a more palatable reggae version of... The end does not justify the means. Kimmy seems to be a paucity of professed ends and scarce means served up with little or no justification. She seems to have a cunning plan, but do a 'cui bono' check and that sets my teeth on edge... 'cause Stone Brokerage owns Kimmy's ass and all the nasty bits her sexist creator (primum mobile, not you KT) made without sugar and spice because they fell off the back of a lorry, and you can't foul up the conveyor belt for one unit.

Bill F Protagoras

Don’t. Let it run.

Tracey52

So very true. A work read at seventeen and then at fifty is like two completely different visions. Some books I loved as a young man I loved a lot less with age. I think I read Jones book 20 years before I saw the film. It’s a beautiful and contemplative film. I would go so far as to say it’s only “loosely based” on the book. Even if the events are similar, the tone is entirely different. Perhaps it’s similar to what can happen in translation where works undergo a metamorphosis leaving them both the same and yet different.

CSH

Kimmy truly is the Devil in the Waters. Though, like others, I was initially surprised and encouraged given her new honesty, on rereading I am inclined to see her as still consciously manipulative. She has little choice but to confess so she uses her confession to take advantage of Josh. Besides, she knows it hurts Josh and now she realizes and accepts that she really likes hurting Josh. The truth is like a knife for her to stab him with. Of course he actually likes to be hurt but also she tells herself “he’s asking for it” which is exactly what every bully ever has used as a justification for their cruelty. Like Donkatsu said I don’t see atonement here so much as regret at getting caught and expert manipulation to make sure she doesn’t have to pay for getting caught. Kimmy focused on guiding Josh along, trying to pull him farther into her web. Of course I enjoy it so I’m not objecting just observing. She makes multiple references to Josh coming in his pants, presumably without touching himself. She thought it first when she made the recording she played him. Going forward, will that be her new measure of success? She would do that in front of Devlin, delivering utter humiliation to Josh. That particular kink is from her not Josh. “The arousal that wickedness brought her was only because she loved Josh. That was her and Josh’s intertwined life now. Wasn’t it? Definitely. It was sacred.” Mentally, she has already transformed her definition of their relationship to one focused first and foremost around her humiliating him and cuckolding him with Devlin. I’d be surprised if these two manage to have a sex life together that does not focus on their kink. If they stay together we might guess this will be their sex life now. It will define their lives. Seems to me they will quickly ramp up the humiliation in the aftermath of this scene. They have both admitted they want it, it’s the thing that binds them together now, so why hold back? There’s a very hardcore cuckold story I read once called “Megan’s Date”. The narrator Is talking to his wife as she prepares for a date with another man. She cruelly humiliates him by recounting many of her previously unknown betrayals, how she fucked around on him during their courtship and marriage. It’s a truly merciless work of sadism and masochism that contains little more than a wife calmly telling her husband the truth. It’s a startling work of disturbing cruelty. When reading this chapter, I was reminded of that (much) more extreme story as if this was an insight into how two supposedly ‘normal’ people could realistically evolve into such an extreme lifestyle. But hey, Evil Kimmy Rules!

CSH

The use of "It wasn't like that." Is that an unashamed lie through obfuscation! Because sometimes he was some place else resizing some other cuckold's floozy.

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, If she wants to save her marriage even though the details are gory and hurtful. And even if it has the potential to end her marriage with Josh not forgiving her. However, I kinda don’t think she will say everything.

Andrew Mellein

Seems to me that Kimmy still views each exchange with Josh through a filter: is this admission good for my long term objective of keeping Josh around to make my lifestyle possible? If it is not, can I compensate for the cost of this admission in some way? She can keep the drip (of information - get your head out of the gutter!) going for quite a while, especially with Devlin's dedicated assistance. I think KT let slip the real truth of Kimmy in two admissions: (1) she agonized over her sexual timidity in HS; and (2) she does not trust anyone, presumably including Josh. Everyone must be seen as a potential adversary, and therefore, a target.

Donkatsu

True... I try never to judge different interpretations against each other as though the same criteria apply ,but if you are talking about The Thin Red Line, the film didn't affect me 'as much,' or 'as intensely,' as the book. In the case of "The Remains of the Day" both versions had a very strong effect though as you say they were two very different works of art. Maybe the book by James Jones seemed more relevant to me at the time. One of the great things about works of art is that each time you expose yourself to them or vice versa they can be, and usually are, remarkably different. So a book I've read over a dozen times can seem like love at first sight (ha,ha) when read out loud! My fault I said good which the only thing you should do with is hang it from a tree and strongly suggest it shouldn't be eaten!

Bill F Protagoras

Is it finally time for Kimmy to answer Josh’s questions honestly? She understands he won’t trust her again, but does she have the courage and vulnerability remaining to trust Josh? Telling him she’s been fucking Devlin is easy now. She tells him as much as he asks, easy peasy. Does she tell him what he doesn’t know to ask? Like, by the way, I’m pregnant and you haven’t been inside me for a looong time. I see that as her trusting Josh not to dump her and exposing her own vulnerability. And then the thing with Hyun? If she half asses the moment she could lose her chance to keep Josh. On the other hand, there’s a difference between honest and stupid.

CSH

The film was a different work of art than the book. The book about one thing and the film about another. Or maybe the book by one artist and the film by another, equally talented.

CSH

Kevlin? Kimlin? Jimmy?

CSH

The film was not as good as the book but still pretty good... The Thin Red Line I mean... Valdez, like Hombre, Bandits and other films by EL were great... like TV's Justified and Jackie Brown they all seemed adaptable to the ethos of the screen large or small... As you know if I had to choose it would be writing, but happily I don't have to choose...

Bill F Protagoras

Yes on Blood Meridian. Currently reading The Passenger.

KT Morrison

What a great story! An American actor in Spain, Marines, Elmore Leonard, and Burt Lancaster. I love things like this.

KT Morrison

The Thin Red Line... James Jones second novel had freakin homosexuals in the Marines! A good novel that revealed the routine fear of being in combat and frequently the stress of not knowing what the fuck was going on if you were or not!

Bill F Protagoras

Yep... he was this old guy in a bar nearby where me and a mate of mine lived when I first arrived in Madrid. This American guy must've heard us talking in English and the owner of the bar introduced us and we became fast friends. He had been working in Sweden as the star of a The Third Man TV Series there. He retired to Spain with his hot Swedish wife who didn't approve of his young English mates. If you've seen from Here to Eternity he was the Yankee sergeant who futilely fired his submachine gun into the night sky as the treacherous Japs bombed the shit out of Pearl Harbour. Ralph was very proud of having been a marine during WWIl. Apparently, Ralph was not the Sheriff but a character named Beaudry who was part of the crew of men who confronted the indomitable constable Valdez. He was a mate of Burt Lancaster which was why he got the job in Valdes. He got small roles in films but was well known in Sweden. He was a modest garrulous guy. Offered to get us jobs as extras in Almeria, but as we had work teaching TEFL we declined... but we'd hang out with him as he needed company that spoke English, and was a good bloke. He read books like us. After about five years his missus grabbed him by the lug and hauled him back to Sweden. Life happened. I went to Zamora with my Dr 'gf' for a while, and then one day I was back at the bar catching up and suddenly Ralph had been dead for several years...

Bill F Protagoras

A true drinking buddy?

KT Morrison

Ha Ha Ji Ji

Bill F Protagoras

Have you read Cormac McCarthy's apocalyptic "Blood Meridian" that's how cowboys should have spoken some readers couldn't stomach it, McCarthy's best book!

Bill F Protagoras

But so many of the books made good successful movies like Valdez is Coming with my late drinking buddy Ralph Brown as the Sheriff or Marshall. He was already way old then.

Bill F Protagoras

Ya think?

Donkatsu

The sad thing is he earnestly thought there was a Manual or a Manuel,

Bill F Protagoras

I know what you mean, I resent the fact that Hemingway wrote so many great short short stories when his longer works are merely good. As for "For Whom the Bell Tolls" his Spanish dialogue with people saying thee and thou demonstrates how little he understood the texture of language, either English or Spanish. I can reliably inform you that reading William Carlos William's Patterson on acid is much more enjoyable than reading The Sun Also Rises in the same condition. Although when speaking of LSD one should always bear in mind Ginsberg's health warning about the great minds of his generation and any other! Your butt makes a good spokes-person! Ps D'ya know the French translated Paradise Lost into rhyming couplets to capture Milton's classic epic feel. The great irony being that even bilingual French/ English speakers may never know if it works... Languages! You speak out of your butt... I talk through my arse!

Bill F Protagoras

He’s honestly an asshole.

CSH

KT what has been your longest work so far? And Is Devil in the Waters topping it?

Andrew Mellein

Josh should also ask Kimmy about their reunion party sleepover when all these adventures started! But he will already know the answers he seeks even with Kimmys confirmation. It will be Hyun and the secret baby that will proverbial knock him out!

Andrew Mellein

Yes, though he wrote Westerns in the pulpy days. But those characters had none of the charm in the later books, the contemporary ones. All the cowboys seemed to talk the langue du bois, the words of cowboy movies. They said stuff EL thought cowboys would say in the movies.

KT Morrison

I think he was into jazz—it seems right. What he said about Hemingway: he loved the writing, but the writer had no sense of humor. Very accurate. EL recommended Richard Bissell, saying it was Bissell's books that lifted him from that Hemingway drudgery and taught him how to write dialog. I tracked down an old 1950 copy of "A Stretch On The River," and it was grand. The protagonist is a masculine dude, but from softer underpinnings, went to Harvard, but he exists among these masculine Hemingway-types, men who work on the river boats. Unlike Hemingway, these characters speak real lives. It's also not too masculine, there is an approachability while still being authentic. It reminded me of what Robert Smith of The Cure said about Joy Division, that they were trying to be too "hard," and ended up portraying themselves as something they're not; it shook my affection for Joy Division, making me realize there was something inauthentic there. Like Hemingway tries too hard to be a "man," and over time starts to sound too much like he *wanted* to be a man's man, like his writings were longings. And there's nothing wrong with that, with the yearning I'm reading into Hemingway's books, I don't mean to say anything negative. I'm only talking about developing a writing style, and about a voice. Hemingway is perfect. But Bissell and Leonard are more readable, more engaging with their dialog, and more universal or diverse in their appeal. I'll stop here—I'm talking out of my butt now, ha ha!

KT Morrison

Oh! Leonard was post hardboiled maybe that was why he was never drawn to rawness... dirtily real or otherwise?

Bill F Protagoras

I thought 'too cool' and also laid back, and wasn't he into Jazz? Je Je Je!

Bill F Protagoras

Figures! So much good stuff, so many brilliant collaborators... From Hell so deceptively not Victorian... so well researched so meticulously illustrated!

Bill F Protagoras

Kimmy was only posing for the shot, giving the photographer what they asked for!

KT Morrison

Ha ha, Elmore Leonard is way too chill and jazzy for such sickness and madness I write. Though between Westerns and Crime, he toyed with the idea of writing romance. I would love some archivist to find a dusty bodice-ripper MS in a drawer somewhere, filled with wry characters and plenty of his own bathos. But I imagine this imaginary perfection would be preserved by the caretakers (the same types preventing Steinbeck's werewolf detective novel from being read!).

KT Morrison

Guess who is an Alan Moore fan. (It's me).

KT Morrison

LOL on "Vandals!"

KT Morrison

Wonderful!

KT Morrison

Yeah—this series is past the 400k word mark now!

KT Morrison

I love that it's so long, as it brings me so much greater pleasure... as the actress said to the bishop

Bill F Protagoras

I was gonna say..a sex scene in the hotel, but where from there? Haha. Good luck!!

Chris K

Of Sorrow Unfeign'd continues the pleas for forgivness by Adam and Eve to God for the first... original sin in the poem. Adam normally does the talking as he has a penis like God. In this instalment the unfeigned sorrow may point to Kimmy and Josh by turns, but as Kimmy has been hamming up her sex with her lover to arouse Josh sexually and emotionally he puts his foot down and insists she stop being disingenuous! And show her genuine self...

Bill F Protagoras

Yes, it's supposed to be the last book, but I can't pare down these scenes, damn it! This hotel scene is way, way longer than I expected.

KT Morrison

Oh ye of little faith... We're dealing with KT...

Bill F Protagoras

"She’d shown him stark betrayal; too much, too close, and he wouldn’t trust her again. That truth disheartened her for a moment. And, somehow, this time, she really was wounded." In an earlier, instalment it was revealed she trusted no-one, now alienating Josh she will feel the pain of warranting Josh's distrust... hopefully it will make her more understanding! A better person! A better fuck... who rattled your cage, Devlin?

Bill F Protagoras

Wow! We're almost twinsies!

Bill F Protagoras

Great post... but closure doesn't exist all that happens is that with time pain and suffering allow people to move them politely into the background, in my experience, and from what I've seen if love's involved people don't want to forget... Closure is like religion it requires faith. Otherwise I agree with almost everything you said about this incredibly well crafted work.

Bill F Protagoras

I presume by straight up you mean his normal arrogant shifty over reaching self!

Bill F Protagoras

No way! This is KT!

Bill F Protagoras

I think she's afraid, not a coward, there is a distinction. Otherwise bang on the nail!

Bill F Protagoras

Josh is a steely investigator racked by his own ignorance and the assumed nonchalance his wife wears as a mask... He cares. he cares! But if needs be he'll turn off the flow of his heart... like a stopcock.

Bill F Protagoras

Sorry, but you clearly understand Josh as well Kimmy does... and Kimmy as well as Devlin does. Except for caring about Josh and Kimmy, I agree with your conclusions heartily.

Bill F Protagoras

Now, a question KT, when exactly is Kimmy seemingly crying in a shower in her inimitable inscrutable fashion? At what point in the first book? She's got her compliment extern on a tight reign. Probably best, if you consider that a rhetorical question.

Bill F Protagoras

And now we find out why she sent Josh to visit hell..." Josh’s brow lowered, and he leaned even closer, his eyes troubled despite the scorn his features showed. “Did you fuck him in Grand Cayman?” To acclimatize him to the next bit clearly... Has anybody ever heard the term conspiracy theory? Wasn't that when... maybe now would be a good time to tell Josh about the pregnancy? Devlin will be like a pig in shit no matter whose the baby is!

Bill F Protagoras

“Do you fuck him every day?" “I wish.” “No, Josh,” she said. “It wasn’t like that.”

Bill F Protagoras

Fuck woman, thinking about how well you groomed your husband for his big date, I don't know whether to congratulate you for multitasking or to ask KT directly, if the next part is gonna be that bad!

Bill F Protagoras

“Show me your worst. I want to see it.” She said, “I will. I will, for you.” You know KT Elmore Leonard never wrote anything as raw as this book! Not that I'm saying it because of this particular moment in the instalment... but I just thought it now and didn't want to leave it unsaid. It in no way demeans him in my sight but as an author he didn't have it in him.

Bill F Protagoras

“I’m everything to you. At least I hope I am. I want to be everything.” I love how each sentence moves her further from her feigned smugness & presumption to at last expose her insecurity... she can't speak to him as her cuckold at this moment. He's not just a heart but a man who earned her respect... and fuck it! At some point a bit of deference!

Bill F Protagoras

"He narrowed his eyes, shaking his head, lost in skepticism. “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard you say, and you’re not stupid.” He still shows her respect despite how much she has trivialized their relationship and him.

Bill F Protagoras

"Is this what it’s like with him? What I watched, was this how it was all the times you were with him?” Her lips slimmed but she didn’t shy away. “Yeah,” she said. “Pretty much.” So flip! See, she can tell the truth even if it hurts. Just like her parents taught her.

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh kept his eyes on hers, saying, “I guess I do.” Despite everything... up to now. But he still guessed.

Bill F Protagoras

"Devlin said, “If you like a wicked woman, Josh, you hit the fucking jackpot. Kimmy Chang is the devil.” He is such a pretentious self-centred prick... he deserves himself. Nobody else does... especially not Kimmy, be she good or bad.

Bill F Protagoras

"He said, “I want you to be yourself. I want you to show me what you are.” Thank you, Josh! It must hurt so much more for you. It's killing me... and not softly.

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh said to Devlin, “What do you want?” Wasted on him Josh, but he understands, that's why he hates you so much.

Bill F Protagoras

"That’s why I thought it was funny. That was the Josh I know.” “I’m not trying to be funny.” Speaks for itself.

Bill F Protagoras

"You don’t have to like it so much." I thought yeah! Yay! But then I stepped back thinking... if that's what SHE thinks he thinks, and then my enthusiasm drained away!

Bill F Protagoras

Well I think the next chapter or two will be all about Kimmys revelations to Josh about her sexcapades with Devlin in the Caymens and elsewhere. The problem will be Devlin will be in the room fucking things up. Will her pregnancy be revealed? Who knows. The last couple chapters also convinced me she really loves Josh and if the ending called for it for them to stay together and Kimmy no longer working for Devlin but back to making baskets and being old Kimmy. But it might be too late for that.

Andrew Mellein

"While it was funny, she didn’t like that role for him. He deserved a better position". And what's this now... a sliver of compassion?

Bill F Protagoras

"She slipped away from Devlin and off the bed, suddenly feeling far too naked, her hand covering between her thighs, where Devlin had just been." Look at her emoting all over the show... so she does have a smithereen of shame... but modesty is unlikely.

Bill F Protagoras

"But definitely not his bully. Not his Devlin. And not Amy." I am almost tempted to bore you with that quote from Devlin's favourite 'philosopher.' But instead I will for a moment imagine certain pages from the graphic novel "Watchmen" drawn by Dave Gibbons and written and laid-out by Alan Moore. I caution you all against struggling against worms and things... just in case!

Bill F Protagoras

I really think Kimmy’s a little too confident in her abilities to control Josh. Her POV is so far from his POV. She’s still lying to him after everything he’s put up with. Something has to break here. Josh’s hatred of Devlin is too strong, and when he finds out the depth of her betrayal, I think it’s game over for Kimmy. He’s never going to be able to trust her after this.

Kat

"Yet each man kills the thing he loves, By each let this be heard, Some do it with a bitter look, Some with a flattering word, The coward does it with a kiss, The brave man with a sword! Some kill their love when they are young, And some when they are old; Some strangle with the hands of Lust, Some with the hands of Gold: The kindest use a knife, because The dead so soon grow cold. Some love too little, some too long, Some sell, and others buy; Some do the deed with many tears, And some without a sigh: For each man kills the thing he loves, Yet each man does not die." Who knows maybe it's just a people thing...

Bill F Protagoras

“It’s only urine.” Those damn ordinary folk they're always taking the fun out of everything... squeezing out every last drop. Deconstructing every last detail. Vandals!

Bill F Protagoras

And talking of brains it seems like Devlin might have finally fucked Harlot Kim's brains out...

Bill F Protagoras

"That unreadable expression twitched and turned down, assuming something more surly, his delightful brain at work." He does have adelightful brain it's a shame he's sharing a room with zombies... You better hope he isn't getting angry Kimmy... because you won't like him when he's angry...

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh lures his own torment." Very true like the cow lures the butcher and the knacker's yard... or deer lure the wolf pack.

Bill F Protagoras

Naturally as the courtly love bitch goddess who adores to be adored on a pedestal, Lady Kimmy would want a sacred relationship where everybody knows their assigned place... hard luck Josh. For someone who has only recently been granted Caliban's gift of cursing Kimmy doesn't seem to understand the love Josh wants is profane, that needs the profanity of fucking, but also the emotional comfort of the affectionate kiss, the hug and the shared life... who wouldn't prefer the common touching of the base mechanicals to the aristocratic robber baron arrogance and divisiveness of Devmmy's nature red in tooth and claw... Sexual feudalism and economy based on a commerce in Dead Souls... de Sade and Gogol would have a good chuckle... their weapon against a tyranny of divide, exploit and rule!

Bill F Protagoras

Agree Kat, I think Kimmy is going to be in for a rude awakening. Her wants are totally different than Josh's wants in the POV's. I actually think Josh is smarter than her and maybe has that back up plan that's going to make her and Devlin come crashing down!

Andrew Mellein

Abso-fucking-lutely spectacular, KT. This dialogue, both internal and external, is amazing. It shows so deeply the level of Kimmy's narcissism that she could be so awful, betray so deeply, yet still want his unfettered devotion. She wants to be everything to him, not because he's everything to her (clearly given how needy she is for Devlin) but because she needs that control over him, craves that power and how it makes her feel. Yes, she loves him, she wouldn't stop and go to him the way she did if he didn't mean so much to her. And I like that she's lucid enough, even in this moment, to realize her difficulties in getting him to heel are entirely her fault. Her betrayal, her bungling of the sanctity of their marriage for her own selfish need to get off on being a nasty, betraying bitch has placed her here. She owns it, yet discards the knowledge that comes with that ownership and instead clings to her desire to peddle her grift of lies, deceit and artful manipulation. Telling Josh the truth when it suits her while acting ashamed when it doesn't. I will give her kudos, at least she didn't shy away from telling Josh that sex with Devlin is always like this, and that's the reason she did it. Of course, leaving unsaid that she only wants it because Josh is unable to deliver what she needs, at least not in this. The tragic thing is, I think others may be right, Kimmy is blind to the fact that while Devlin may give her the physical things she craves, only Josh can give her the emotional fulfillment that is vital to her livelihood. And her betrayal has wreaked havoc and nearly destroyed that, and she's banking on Josh forgiving her betrayal for this "atonement" and penitence. She acts like she has it in the bag. Pride goeth before a fall, Kimmy. And you're very prideful. I almost want this to work, because they're perfect for each other. If Kimmy could just pull her head out of her selfish ass long enough to realize she can't keep putting her desires first. When she went to Josh here, she got it, you could feel that she got it. That in that moment Josh needed to be first. And she did it. But is it too little too late? Something tells me the next chapter or two will give us a hint.

L_S87

Holy shit KT I’m just realizing the first book was published in January 2020!

Tim ziegler

This is what I want too! Manus is over the top to brutal! I want a HEA in which ever way KT spins it. We will see ..this definitely has been my h different then anything KT has done so far..It has been as promised a wild ride!!!

Mike Monroe

I love a shared moment like the one that Kimmy and Devlin shared. That was very immersive! I also like revving Kimmy's engine to get what she wants just before asking her to reveal hard truths ...

JamesIsAsleep

I so want Josh to find out everything, all the ways she’s betrayed him. He seems to be detaching himself from her. Obviously, this all still turns him on, but I don’t think he’s that eager to reconnect with her immediately after this over. He said he’d forgive her afterwards, but I don’t know how he’s going to be able to do that when the depth of her betrayal is revealed. He seems to be focused to seeing everything, and committing it to memory, as a way to prove it all to himself. I don’t see this so much as him being turned on, but maybe as a way to end things with her, a sense of closure so he can move on. Kimmy still thinks this is all in her control. She’s loves all of it, especially doling out the humiliation for Josh, all under the guise of it being for them both. Their sacred union. I may be wrong, but I think Kimmy’s overplayed her hand and is in for an unpleasant surprise. Josh is not as weak as he’s appeared to be throughout this series. Devlin still has the power here to really mess things up. I’m waiting for him to ask Josh to clean Kimmy up after he’s done with her, telling him that he’s already done it before, so why not do it again. Great story, KT! There’s still a lot to tie up in the story. Maybe a short Book 13 is in order? Lol Some people consider 13 to be a very unlucky number, as well as, associating it with Satan aka Devil in the Waters, it kind of fits. Just a thought. ;)

Kat

I don't see KT going the Manus Dare route. I think the ending will be well thought out and realistic to the characters and not a cuckold cliche!

Andrew Mellein

Incredible build up! Kimmy thinks she is gaining more control of Josh with her admissions, still operating on the false belief that she planted in Josh that he wanted this. Agree that this like an artful interrogation. The only person who is reasonably straight up at this point is Devlin. Gaslighting Josh is still a high priority for our gal, Kimmy.

Donkatsu

True...but that is Manus Dare talent to be brutal!!! Liked the alternative ending for that one though! This might be the way Josh gets some redemption. In the alternative Miles does leave with Karen ...I hope for such a thing for Josh.

Mike Monroe

I can definitely see Josh using Devlin cock as like Wonder woman's Lasso...I way to get all the truth out....I agree I don't think Josh is enjoying this fully..He maybe a bit numb to it right now ...He may slightly turned on in the since of watching porn but is he turned on really by watching Kimmy and Devlin going at it. This can be a way of closure for there relationship and marriage. So many things have been revealed to showing how evil Kimmy has been behind his back. The results of placing someone on pedestal...Only way for them to go is down!!! Down goes Kimmy!!!

Mike Monroe

Maybe. Just hope he doesn't end up like Miles from Claiming Karen. It's been done before and it was pathetic

Chris K

I think it might be the longest book in the series.

Andrew Mellein

I think the next chapter we will finally see more of the truth revealed about Cayman and other cheating incidents. Maybe Josh will finally lose it or maybe he will continue watch Kimmy have sex with Devlin and not care but be aroused all the same!

Andrew Mellein

At this point I don't think Josh gives a shit about Kimmy and now even more so when she casually confessed everything! He wants to watch her be the cheating whore that she kept hidden from him. I actually don't think he would care if she left the room with Devlin for more sex behind his back. I get the feeling that he has checked out of this relationship and only wants to see Kimmy be the different person she is behind his back. But who knows at this point?

Andrew Mellein

I kinda seems like Josh is using this as an interrogation. He knows Kimmy is a chicken shit coward and won't tell him truth, but old arrogant Devlin is on top of the world right now.

Chris K

Like I thought Josh likes the pleasure Kimmy is getting but he is revulsed that she lied and cheated behind his back with his bully. I don't think he even wants to have sex with Kimmy at this point or ever as she is trying to seduce him in the room. How funny that Kimmy casually finally admits she was fucking Devlin behind his back after eleven books of denial and gaslighting. At this point Josh probably doesn't care an iota about Kimmy and what she does (i.e. Devlin fucking semen into her, anal sex or worse getting peed on) with Devlin ( be wicked and show me your worst he says) and funnily enough Kimmy thinks she is doing it for Josh and that he loves her.

Andrew Mellein

I can’t find anyone to like in this twisted threesome. Josh has revealed his need and weakness. I really struggle with feeling any concern for what he is knowingly putting himself through. Kimmy & Devlin are selfish and sadistic. It’s a warped self indulgent trio. But from an emotional distance it’s pure vintage KT. Still no idea where they’re all headed!

Wess

Is this the last book? It seems like there is still too much to be revealed in a short amount of time, regardless of how this ends.

Chris K
