Info: How Often Do My Mods Need Updating?

Updating mods every month can be a hassle for both creators and players. While some mods break with every patch, others remain stable for long periods of time. With so many patches and mods out there, it can be hard for players to commit to new ones. Sure, you might love a mod now, but how often will it break? Will you need to redownload it after every patch? What if the creator stops maintaining it?

To provide clarity for anyone using my mods, I've created a tier system. Each mod I release will be categorized to help you make informed decisions based on how frequently they may need updates!

🛡️ Patch Resilience: Unbreakable

These mods work solely through injections in the Core Library and don’t override any tuning files. It is impossible for them to break. It is, however, possible for Core Library to break, so make sure you have the latest version.

😄 Patch Resilience: High

These mods are extremely stable and rarely break. I'd go so far as to say they never break, but never say never! Mods in this tier typically work through injections in the Core Library and don’t override specific game functions. They might also involve files from expansion/game packs that Maxis rarely touches after release.

It's safe to assume that these mods are compatible with every patch. Find a nice home for them in your Mods folder and hopefully never think about them again!

🙂 Patch Resilience: Moderate

These mods are pretty resilient and usually stable month-to-month. However, major patches, especially those released before new expansion or game packs, may introduce new features or tuning updates that need to be integrated into the mod. It's safe to assume that these mods won't cause any major issues if you choose not to update them, however.

⚠️ Patch Resilience: Low

These mods are more fragile and often need a thorough review with every patch. I try to avoid releasing mods that require this level of upkeep, as it’s frustrating for both myself and the player. You should assume these mods are broken by default and will require updating with every patch.
