Think Break Mega Instrument 🥁

Holy moly this one has come straight out of the Groovin Headquaters smoking hot! 🔥

This month, I've continued to push the boat out and experiment further with the idea of making the ultimate break chooping instrument for each of these classic breaks.

If people are interested in how I processed the Think here, I followed a very similar workflow to the Patreon video I posted last week.

Once I had the 3 seperate chops of the Think break resampled out of the akai, I then set about making the perfect groove by combining hits and elements for each of them. The hardest part of this was to keep the natural groove flowing nicely whilst chopping between the different breaks.

Once I found a couple of grooves that worked well at 168BPM, I tested out the breaks at different pitches as well as processing the break in different ways to see what sounded best.

The different versions of these can be found in 'Break Processing'

Finally, I had the perfect base to start building the Mega Break Instrument in Renoise. This included:

I used Translator 7 to convert the .sfz file to Bitwig, Ableton and Logic and finally built the instrument in the Digitakt mk2!

I've got a feedback stream with Alex in the next few weeks so please get working on any tracks you would like to be included. 😊

Big ups everyone & have a great weekend! 🚀

I've updated both the posts with an Akai s3000 file link - let me know if it works :)

Hey mate! Any chance of getting the downloads for the mega packs in S3000XL format? Cheers!

Hey mate. For reducing the sustain the only real option is a transient shaper. I use the one by NI. Just pull back the sustain. As there are long slices, you can really do it in the instrument that easy. There are two vocal chops near the start. And vocal time stretches near the end

Hey Groovin', firstly thank you so much - super inspirational stuff! 2 q's - Is there any way to reduce the sustain of the hits like to make the break more staccato sounding within the Renoise MEGA instrument? Also, not sure if I missed it but is the vocal part of the break not included in the MEGA instrument? Thanks again!
