25th December 2024 - The Nwunye Di Ceremony
Added 2025-01-04 09:06:53 +0000 UTCI am very big on keeping my culture and celebrating the beauty in it.
The Nwunye Di celebration is to show how unified the women are, it is designed to acknowledge the ones who have maintained a good rapport with the other wives especially the old. Usually, the older women are not to participate - but they came out for mine - which is a huge honour.
I served them food and drinks.
Next was to give them presents - which was a fabric of my favourite colour - yellow.
The fabric is to be kept for the rest of their lives and they are to wear it - only when I am around or celebrating. They would associate it with me.
It was a blessed day. Somehow - I watched the video again and saw my hubby looking at me in admiration. LOL. You see - I am not of my husband's tribe. In some ways, I am an outsider - so for the women to say No one has done it like Kemi - no one has treated us so well like Kemi - brought me to tears. At several points the oldest woman with a stick refused to sit and stood in my honour. She said Kemi is a daughter she has to stand for
Lesson: The little things matter.
