Not sure they'd be interested, they always want to do things their own way, if they don't 100% control the software, they tend to not bother

I assume it would be nice to have a non-emulated solution? They could talk to Valve. Probably a "pipe dream".

But you habe to be able to take your data to another company that offers a comparable service and you can host it yourself if you want to. And you can look into the code and change it to your needs.
