Patroncast S04E39 - Doing less Linux rekindled my Linux passion

Hey everyone!

In this one, I talk about mixing a side gig with Youtube videos, the Patreon exclusive stuff, and everything else, and how basically being less Linux focused rekindled my passion and love for Linux.

I hope you'll enjoy!

For the windows11 installer: try to make a VM from the iso and pass the usb stick to it and flash it from windows. For me that was the trick because I needed some windows installers as well and I couldn't create one from linux.

I completely agree, I think it's important to have outside hobbies and interests that we can use to pour back some more love and viewpoints into the other things we do. Took me 37 years to realize it :D

It's interesting, the sound thing! Back when I bought the mic I use for the usual video format (me facing the camera, not sitting at my desk), it felt like the audio was mpuch better, but now that I found some audio editing tools that work well for the Yeti, it feels like it's the best of the 2. Maybe it's because I talk much closer to it, so the sound isn't bouncing around like crazy, not sure, but I got some youtube comments mentioning the same thing! I thinj it's healthy to have an other passiuon project, or another hobby, outside of computers. Computers can quickly turn into a job, since we tend to use them for job related things as well!

Hey Nick, good to hear that you're not putting too much work on yourself. I prefer scripted videos but your non scripted Cosmic desktop review was enjoyable to watch, it was more relaxed and laid back. I wouldn't mind such videos from time to time if you want to cover some hot trending topic quickly before other YouTubers jump on the bandwagon and drain all the views 😉. Another thing I wanted to mention is that the sound from the yeti microphone is much crisper and clearer than the one from the camera, I never noticed that it was that different and I really prefer the sound from the mic, personally. It's funny that you mentioned Linux burn out because I've been going back and forth a lot between Linux mint and Fedora Kinoite to figure out which os would be the perfect hands free experience on older, non technical people's computer... spoiler alert, it can be a frustrating task lol. Maybe I need to get my mind busy with something else so I don't burn out with Linux too.

Glad to hear that you are feeling revitalized. I have been there when stuff like this can just become a job. Sometimes it is good to add something to the mix. As for fueling my passion, yes, outside things I do absolutely fuel it. I was just a teenager when Linux came on to the scene. I heard about it on the BBS. Started with SLS and Slackware, so I have been around Linux since the beginning while I was still in high school. I could have easily burned out, if I had not done other things. I became a collector of old systems and operating systems. I taught classes on how to start a business, ran a competitive gaming league back in the old Counter Strike days. That all fueled my passion for Linux and FOSS.
