A lot of the ire is the optics. They announced killing it after introducing on-by-default AI search suggestions and location telemetry going to AccuWeather on new tab. It's that they're killing a project focusing on the open web only moments after introducing "features" that impact user privacy. (Though, knowing Mozilla's track record the extent to which they impact privacy is probably overblown.)

Oh jeez - I've been trying to remember "Mozilla Prism" for AGES and it feels like it's been on the top of my tongue for like a year. I just could not remember no matter how much I tried

Yeah, it's really not. Sure, it's annoying to see a "big" non profit drop the fediverse, but let's be honest, it was never going to be used all that much, and it was always going to be a monetary loss for an entity that struggles to make money. Not a problem.

Yeah, it wasn't really being used. I would be willing to bet many of those people, upset, barely even used it.

Finally a moderate and relatable opinion on the topic "Mozilla killing mastodon instance", apparently this decision really pisses off people (on Mastodon ofc) and honestly, I can't understand why... It's not a big deal!
