Free Speech in the Linux community, Going Full Time, and Ads in video games - Patroncast S02E15

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all doing fine! This patroncast is a bit late, as I had a busy Easter weekend, but it's also a bit longer than usual! I also have a weird voice, I have a bit of a sore throat, but don't be alarmed, it's not COVID!

In this one, I talk about:

- 1:17 The pandemic of "free speech" people in the Linux community, and how it's necessary to find a middle ground between platform moderation, and platform censorship

- 14:17 Going Full Time on Youtube at the end of June: I'm 99% decided on this, and I'd like to tell you about how I plan to organize myself

- 19:29 Dynamic, targeted ads in video games: Microsoft is planning to add these, and this could have nasty consequences...

I hope you enjoy listening to this one! Have a great week :)

Best,

Nick

Censoring pixels from JDG while some music clips are wayyy more borderline... YouTube at its best

That's definitely a valid take. For free to play games, maybe it could make sense, but I'd rather ads not invade video games as well!

The Linux Experiment

I figured I'd split my comments for the other topics: It seems the topic of you considering to quit keeps coming up. I'd say it's an indication you should quit, since it seems you can. Also, I think ads have no place in any paid-for games or other paid content for that matter. If you cannot support development based on sales, the product was under-priced. For bigger studios if they would charge money for a game AND to show advertisements, that just seems greedy.
